How do you feel about fairytale AUs?
They're fun, lots to play around with. I don't have any AUs offhand myself, but who knows, maybe down the road, I'll make one, haha.
I feel the need to ask this because it is obvious from your writing and art, and you have mentioned it before: what is it about Murdoc that is relatable to you in particular? Murdoc is a character with a lot of "information" about him, so I do not find it surprising that a lot of people can relate to him. I'm curious what makes you relate to him because Murdoc is favorite character and more or less your muse for all your Gorillaz content. Also, don't worry; my brain is a little mush too.πΊ
I remember trying to answer this a while back and really struggling to find the words to describe why.
When I was younger I related to 2D far more than Murdoc, I had debilitating migraines, I had suffered head trauma, and I later began to abuse OTC painkillers at school, was part of the choir and honestly got on with everyone whether I liked them or not. (plus I was scrawny as hell).
Then I started to relate to Murdoc more as time went on. I know friends and family would disagree, but I've always struggled to emotionally express myself or struggle with my emotions. I don't like physical attention because of something awful that happened (and I've been in a bad mood since /sarcasm). For a few years of my youth I began to drink heavily while taking meds and I was severely depressed; sadly I still struggle greatly with depression and up/down moods, which I am trying to work on (I'm not perfect and I still make boo boos). I was severely bullied in grade school and a little into highschool and often my big mouth got me in trouble a lot. I was a bit of a skipper in highschool and a class clown, because by that point people didn't take me seriously... so I stopped being serious.
As an adult I relate to him because there are things that just feel almost painfully familiar to me in his character to myself, whether I like it or not. I've mellowed out in a lot of ways, but I know I have my problems. Plus he's a good outlet for me to express things about myself and things I like. (whether SFW or NSFW).
Hopefully that's not too much info dumping!
What is it about 2doc that is so inspiring to you? As I mentioned before, you have more AUs than anyone I have ever seen; all of your AUs feature Stu and Murdoc in some degree of romantic entanglement with one another. I agree that 2doc is an interesting and surprisingly inspiring dynamic, but what about these two in particular has inspired all of this creativity from you? πΊ
Honestly, that's a good question. I really don't know how to properly answer that, but I'll give it a shot. Part of the appeal is I see a lot of potential for a relationship between them. There is a long history between them, bad and good, and it's easy to draw on that to create romantic situations. I see a lot of myself in Murdoc as well and from that it's a lot easier for me to create AUs or adventures. And really, isn't it fun to put your favourite characters through different scenarios to see how they'd fit? I've been a story teller since I was able to talk and it's not an exaggeration lmao, my most famous "when Jakki was a kid" story is me captivating an audience of 20 adults at a bonfire party when I was 5. I can be very talkative and good at keeping people drawn in. I think I just learned to take what minimum there is in a fandom and run with it. Before Gorillaz it was Final Fantasy and I have probably over 100 different AU/story concepts or RPs I did from that fandom. Mainly I think what you can take away from my rambling is that I am at my core a very passionate story-teller. It doesn't have to be 2D & Murdoc, or Zack & Reno (final fantasy) or any two/three/more characters for me, I just need a spark of inspiration and I can create a story from nothing. There are original concepts I have had on the back burner for years upon years that I intend to touch on again one day.
Would Urr'dok count as a character for the ask game? πΊ
Rate them from 0-10 10/10, another version of Murdoc I adore lol. Urr'dok is essentially a Nee'tian version of Murdoc but with a lot backstory I suppose.
Sexuality HC He would classify himself (under Earth terms) as gay. His upbringing on Nee't was less then ideal and he normally attempts to remove himself from Nee'tian culture. (He'll pick and choose what he wants to celebrate of his culture).
Gender HC On Nee't he's classified as Half-Male, but on Earth he prefers male and he/him. Stuart respects that and calls him what Urr'dok would prefer. He has a bad time with his Nee'tian gender classification.
Fav Moment/Random Trivia Favourite moment with Urr'dok? I suppose the best moment would be when he finally understands and learns English - then refuses to use it properly. He still after mastering it will call Stuart "human" instead of his name. Stuart views it kind of like an term of endearment. Random trivia, Urr'dok enjoys human alcohol (usually the stronger stuff and only after he's grown used to Earth stuff). He also only ever uses his defence mechanism of growing larger twice in Stuart's presence... both times Stuart was startled, but found it really interesting. (He wanted Urr'dok to carry him and lift him up to things for shits and giggles).
Random HC He's fascinated with human bodies, they're very foreign to him. Stuart quite willingly will put up with Urr'dok just examining his hand or hair. Unlike Stalien, Urr'dok is almost immediately turned off from a lot of Earth food for the first bit. Candies/sweets are too much and everything has far more flavour than what he's used too from home. In part this is due to have a poorer upbringing and lack of decent food, everything was fairly bland because eating is necessity and not done for fun or to try things. Eventually he grows more accustomed to things on Earth.
Opinion My opinion of Urr'dok is basically that he's a somewhat nicer version of canon Murdoc, but only marginally. He still has his flaws that make him sometimes impossible to deal with.

Would Rachel Pot as she appears in Mark Me count as a character for the ask game? She seems to be a prominent character in that AU, being the matriarch werewolf and one Stu must defy. πΊ
Rate them from 0-10 2/10, she's caused a lot of strife. A lot.
Sexuality HC Straight as a ruler lol. I don't exactly have much going for her.
Gender HC She prefers to stay cis female and go by she/her. She's not interested in exploring anything beyond what she knows she is and given it's a matriarchal...
Fav Moment/Random Trivia I suppose the moment her face puckers up in sour disappointment is a hilarious/favourite moment when Stuart disowns his family. I have no real trivia to share about her as after a couple moments, she's never really discussed or seen/heard from again haha.
Random HC She's incredibly boring, so much so she collects small porcelain angels despite not being religious. Her favourite pastime is reading harlequin romance and drinking cheap wine from 6am to 6pm. This lady is so basic, she could pull off Uggs. Not to say that being basic is bad, but she's really the shittiest character in the story aside from Seb.
Opinion My opinion of her is so infinitesimal I don't think I have a fully formed one to share lmao XD
It's not Mermay, but maybe Murdoc the sea monster from Creatura Maris? You did say sea monsters are your second favorites after aliens. πΊ
Rate them from 0-10 7/10, this version of Murdoc is... for a lack of better words, very sad. He's a mournful monster of the deep and lacks social skills.
Sexuality HC Gay, he's really only interested in men and that was already an established thing for him well before he was cursed. Though prior to his curse he did sleep with a few women, just to try it out.
Gender HC He's not 100% what his gender is after he's cursed. He still uses he/him, but his body is no longer 'cis male' and really he just is.
Fav Moment/Random Trivia He becomes a silent, lonely guardian of the sea. He cleans up human waste and other trash to convert into ornaments or jewellery just to keep sane all on his lonesome. My favourite moment though is when he rescues Stuart from a surfing accident, which happens three more times after the initial incident... and Murdoc gets a little annoyed this stupid human can't seemingly take a hint. Random trivia - he's well traveled, under the waves. Murdoc has had a long while to explore the ocean on his own and map it's many nooks and crannies.
Random HC Since he spent so long under the waves away from other humans Murdoc stops talking and using English. Eventually he stops being able to form sentences and resorts to noises to talk. (He does gain back the ability to speak in the end).
Opinion Good fish, definitely learned his beauty & the beast-esque lesson, but too stupid to figure out how to undo his curse. I love the ocean and sea creatures are definitely my second fave kinda "monster" aside Stalien lol.
BTS Paula?
Rate them from 0-10 8.5/10, she's pretty awesome in this AU. She's a quick learner and sharp with her wit... which I mean you have to be on a ship full of pirates.
Sexuality HC Lesbian, though there was a brief moment of her life where she was forced into a hetero relationship as per the customs of the time for young women of affluent families. However she ran off with Murdoc & Stuart when they visited the port town.
Gender HC CIS Female. She's not above posing as a man though if it suits her needs.
Fav Moment/Random Trivia My favourite moment is when she proves, to anyone that doubts her, completely and utterly wrong. She's headstrong and very much capable about holding her own. In this AU she's learned that the only way a woman like her will survive is if she forges a place for herself in the world where people either fear her or respect her (either out of fear or because she knows what she's doing).
Random HC She's not above teasing Stuart (her childhood friend) about "taking" Murdoc for a spin despite having no interest in really doing so because she knows he's a bit of a jealous type. She's also a better pirate than Stuart is lol.
Opinion I like her a lot lmao, she's pretty great to have in a sword fight or a drinking contest.
