The Basics - Via Good Reads
Caitlin King canât believe that her shopaholic cousin actually bought two ghosts off of eBay. But she canât ignore the truth when she starts seeing sexy Liam OâReilly, whoâs been dead for over a hundred years. Heâs a fascinating specter, and the more time Caitlin spends with him, the closer they becomeâsending them both spiraling into a star-crossed tailspin. No matter how desperately they long for each other, thereâs just no future with a guy whoâs already stopped breathing.
In order to help Liam and his twin sister, Anna, leave their earthly limbo and cross over into the light, Caitlin must find the ghost of Annaâs fiancĂŠ. But a malevolent spirit is dead set against Anna moving on. Now Caitlin will have to unravel the mystery surrounding the twinsâ past lives in order to keep Liamâs spirit safeâeven if it means sacrificing her heart in the process
If youâve been here long enough, youâll know Iâll always be straight with you on what I think about a book, so we are gonna be straight right off the bat. At the point of writing this, I have not finished this book, nor do I have any plans too.
Lets run through just a few issues, in the fastest way that wonât bore you to death.
Caitlin is a character I didnât warm too. She has a snobbish essence about her, and Cox is trying way to hard to make her a âgirly girl who isnât girly.â
Liams whole appearance doesnât seem to have any affect on Caitlin for more than 2.5 seconds, which frankly is just unbelievable.
Their relationship is weird but mainly overly frustrating. They literally never stop talking about how attracted their are to each other, neither out loud or in internal monologue. It gets redundant.Â
Also the relationship is creepy because you know...heâs dead and Caitlin makes progressively weird comments about his body etc.
The influx of random male characters for the soul purpose of making Liam jealous is ridiculous. I dislike love triangles at the best of times, but this was over the top with the jealously rating.
There are some really crappy messages in this book in the forms of but not limited to  -
Caitlin getting insulted when Liam compliments her intelligence, saying it isnât cool to be smart.
A lot of âYouâre not like other girlsâ narrative. Which include zingers like âYou only pretend to be ditsy but I can see the real you.â Gag me.
There is loads of random filler lines that completely take away from the moment and really just make it look like Cox is trying to meet a word count.
Liam is constantly described as being sad, having sad eyes, looking sad or distant. There is one part of the book where the same description of him was used twice within five lines. 5 lines! Heâs sad. I get it!Â
Continuity errors come with Liam being able to move through walls, get hit by cars and go right through them, and dissipate when people walk through him, but he is physically viable enough to open doors, and pick up things. He can even physically hurt people.Â
Over half way through the book and I still havenât gotten to any action. Anna has only appeared through Liam going to talk to her, and seemly there is no mystery to be solved since Liam can just find everyone he needs to find without any effort at all, except for of course the bad guy. And frankly Iâd rather not find out who they are if it means having to sit through more âWe can, we canât. But youâre so attractive!â mumbling from Caitlin and Liam.
I think Ghost for Sale had great potential if it had been approached without the unnecessary love story, the weird misogynistic tones scattered through out, and frankly better writing.
Would I recommend this book? No.
Until next time!
