Next in the collection lets go for my most recent addition! This is Chaz (Bat, medium size, dark brown). My friends love giving me sand animals, they know what a range I have and I think finding unique ones for me is a (fun?) challenge for them! This friend certainly hit the nail on the head with a bat - a very unique little guy for sure.
Hello! Welcome to my sand animal collection. Let's kick things off with my oldest 3 - Mr Krabbs (medium size, mainly pink, crab); Pony (medium size, purple, seahorse); and George (large, green, frog)!
The first two I got at London Aquarium with my godmother when I was very young. I don't remember too many details. I found George soon after, and at the time thought he was HUGE (now not so much compared to some other ones I have 😅). You can see how the shiny silver dots have all but worn away on these three! They are very well loved. I love the embedded glass eyes. Some have cheaper beads sewn on. And I think George's eyelids give him a great expression.
The naming convention is all over the place as I've been picking up sand animals since I was like 6 years old (so it's been a couple decades at this point!) I also don't remember where they are all from. Many are missing their tags too. I'm also a big inclusionist; if it has sand in, regardless of if it's shiny or not, it's a sand animal. Controversially, I also have a couple that look like shiny sand animals... But don't actually have any sand in, just stuffing... But I can't help but keep them alongside their sandy friends nonetheless! And unless you have a bigger collection than me you don't get a say about that 😌
