I couldn't help but notice Marina's (slight) resemblance to Emmy too! Emmy was such a big influence on young Luke's life, perhaps his biggest female role model other than his mother, maybe subconsciously he looked for similar qualities in his partner? Or something sweet like that. Like how some people end up with spouses similar to their parents. I don't know how involved he is with the anime, but Takuzo Nagano can be really deliberate with his character designs.

So apparently some people speculate Sherl might actually be Layton? If it were some switcheroo shenanigans like that, given Sherl's personality, doesn't Luke make more sense? Evolves from cheeky kid to sarcastic grump man.
