Wampanoag. The son of Awashonks, great Sachem or Saunkskwa at Sakonnet. Sampoonock (also spelled Samponack)’s kin, with names spelled as they appear in the document itself: his mother, “Awawshonks.” His father “Wawwooyowwitt.” A brother, “Cunckochowitt alias Symon.”
Alternative name spellings include Awashonks, Wawayeenit and Cakawehunt, respectively.
