at this point, lookin at his tweet, i dont even take a look at its caption and start screaming
I miss this two...
Mesut: *taps on the table*
Sami: *taps in response*
Jogi: Stop that.
Mesut: Stop what?
Jogi: You’re talking about me in morse code.
Sami: Yes, that’s what we’re doing. In our very limited free time, we took a class on a very outdated, very unnecessary form of communication just so we could talk about you in front of you.
*later*
Mesut, to Boa: That’s... exactly what we did.
Sami: that's mine Mesut: he's talking about me

What is your take on Sami and Mesut? They're another pair that have known each other since the youth team and that stellar U21 2009 squad but of course we're together at RM as well. They're a bit of an enigma to me and I'm always interested in your thoughts on these things xxx
You flatter me anon!! I hold the bonds of the 2009 squad pretty highly (and ship everyone with everyone) OHMAN but Sami and Mesut!!! They’re one of those ships that have some serious…..mojo? Chemistry? But is very lowkey?
By all rights and purposes it’s like an odd couple of personalities. Like their trajectory is hella weird in hindsight…at least from my perspective.
Facts: Sami was the u21 captain for that tournament and Im p sure Mesut was the best goalscorer or the one who won the final for Germany? You can easily draw parallels to Leon and Max’s current/previous (now that Leon seems to be getting called up to the senior team kinda regularly) positions in the u21 team.
So like it’s interesting how it all worked out for them in the end with Mesut causing much more of a splash than Sami tho Sami gives a more approachable vibe than Mesut super private=>careful social media king. (Actually I can talk loads about Mesut and his private/public persona and there was a great article about him….i wanna say in ESPN bc thats my go to. But if i can find it ill link it)
And again, like you said, them ending up on the same international team which plagued Sami with injuries and really put Mesut in the eye of the storm.
(Sidenote: what is it with Schalke’s academy kids and success stories that are so dang intriguing)
Side side note: THIS IS WHY I REALLY WANT TO SEE SAMI FLOURISH AS A SENIOR MEMBER OF THE NT @ JOGI. (I so wanted him to get the captains band. Because I didn’t need a haircut and juventus to open my eyes to his leadership skills!!! I digress. And i love Sami at juve dont fight me)
In the case of Sami and Mesut, I actually don’t mind the long distance because it’s been so beneficial for both of them. You can see no matter where the world takes them, they’re supportive of each other.
As for shipping, there’s an interesting dynamic in play when it comes to Mes, which is religion (oh gosh there’s a fic sort of dealing w this that I adore!!) And how that intersects with feelings and identity.
I’ve lost my train of thought so I’ll leave it at that but come back to ask me if you want any specifics/details.
I LOVE THESE TWO SO MUCH
