Do you have the coven book?
Yes! I just read the majority of it today. I enjoyed it overall, and the ending felt reasonable if not a little deus ex machina-reliant. Still a nice adventurous romp though.
Also, I happened to be reminded of this song—yes, it's literally about witches vs. the greed of men and needing a scapegoat to blame climate change on.
A few observations:
Clear environmentalism/conservationist, anti-war, and anti-imperialism themes.
The entire "Face Killer" concept reminded me of Luoto Bahkti from Fall, but the concept wasn't all recycled, so it was fine.
The sludge monsters caused me to think of modern oil rigs.
I suspect Soman took inspiration from Indian religion(s)/mythos? The conservation of the earth's lifeblood and the general idea of reincarnation seemed like it paralleled something real-world, like reaching enLIGHTenment or joining a "world soul" or nature—if there is a proper term for that I'm not sure what it is. Someone correct me if you know. (I've found "anima mundi," which seems like a Western variant of the same thing/cycle so far.)
I tried to look up "va na veda," but I'm not sure if there is an exact translation for it from a real-world language and do not trust the AI overview.
I wonder if Jonah's name is an allusion to The Giver, a classic, award-winning novel by Lois Lowry set in a false-utopian world where all weather conditions are moderate and "perfect," due to a lot of chemical/otherwise artificial, man-made influence. The main character of that book, Jonas, is one of the few people who has the gift of "seeing beyond," essentially, seeing what's wrong or lacking with his civilization's state of living and emotions/humanity.
What if we were locked in the fade forever together?
My birthday isn’t for another like two weeks but my friend sent me this and it’s cute so I wanted to share in case anybody else is having a rough day too
