For new authors it is difficult to know the way to go. It is difficult methinks to recognize the right way to go. For some it may be the blog, for others, relentlessly telling others how good their book is (though that just puts me off to be honest) But you already know how much effort and time that you have put into it. If you are anything like me (and i suspect that you are from your comments) then you have already put in more than most ever do with a job unless they be CEO of IBM or something similar (earning millions a year). Yet we do it for less than minimum wage most of the time. My next will be my eleventh (I think) and pretty good in my opinion even though i am unknown in the genre. If it does well, good, if it does not then all is well and good even if i end up disappointed. I am not saying here that you have to, or indeed, should take my view on these things but it does make the disappointment easier. Over the years and many books i have still never had a bestseller (though that point is moot) yet when i think of it i realize that i should never have. I have a better book to write. I have rattled on here as that is what do writers do other than write, yet i just really wished to end this with a thought. Take your time, get it right, don't kill yourself to get there. The nature of the world these days is that you could write the greatest novel ever told, outshine Dickens, Voltaire, London, Sam Clemens, Ballard and even Shakespeare yet never sell a copy of your book other than to friends and family. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Many great writers died paupers, many writers of great prose, failed to gain success. You could also with no great endeavor gain the plaudits of the public and become a bestseller with little effort. I think that no one knows what will engage the general public and so it may be a school boy on a train learning magic (who'd have Thunk it) or a "very badly written" novel about S&M (i thunk not) or Some artistic and religious mysteries in a thriller that sold around the world by word of mouth became a bestseller. There is no telling what the public will catch onto. Vive la Public.
