Sambolo: A Beautifully Peaceful Beach in Anyer
If you are a foreigner or a local that don’t have a clue about Sambolo beach, stay with me and read the whole article because Indonesia has a lot to offer than just Kuta Bali, Lombok, etc. Sambolo beach is the alternative to your beach destination with cheaper and less crowded option. The Sambolo beach is located about 3 hours away from Jakarta.
In the first semester break of college my classmates decided to go on vacation together for two days, we choose Sambolo beach as our destination as suggested by Sandra, one of my classmate.
We decided to rent a cottage with a water-front view with 3 bedroom, one bathroom, a kitchen and huge living room. The cottage is very modest but match our college student budget and the fact that the only cottage that is occupied were ours it feels like we have our own private beach!
We choose the middle cottage out of 3 cottage in Sambolo and there were no one rent the other neighboring cottages. It is because when we went there it was not a public holiday, therefore everyone is either working or at school.
With minimum budget about USD$30/person for two whole day from transportation, accomodation, and food we successfully arranged the best short trip for about 10 people in our class. It was awesome, we even have barbecue and big campfire on the beach shore on midnight!
We circle the campfire on midnight singing and play the truth or dare game until we’re all tired and decided to sleep. The next day, we decided to rent a mini board to just swimming in the beach. After that some of us decided to play the banana boat thingy, so we asked the man who took care of our cottage and after we wait about 15 minutes the boat arrived in front of our cottage!
The banana boat guy came only for us in front of our cottage! I feel so rich with minimum budget at that time lol.
The view when I was on the boat was unbelievable, I didn’t bring my dslr camera with me for obvious reason. All I can tell you was that when we’re on the ocean I can see that far behind our cottage was a beautiful landscape of mountain and trees I was just speechless and amaze with the view.
If I have the time, I would definitely come to Sambolo again!
Sadly, before the Christmas eve in 2018 Sunda Strait was hit by dreadful tsunami caused by the eruption of mount child of Krakatoa and killed more than 400 people and thousands injured. From the news, it was confirmed that Sambolo is the most affected area and everything is completely destroyed.
I can only hope that the man who took care of the cottage we rented and his family were doing okay along with the other people that renting the board, selling the coconut and everyone that have helps us while we were there.
