I Want You Back
Characters: Sam x Reader, Dean, Jack (the Nephilim), Castiel (mentioned)
Word Count: 3,247
Warnings: kind of angsty, fluffy Sam feels at the end, spoilers for the plot of season 12/13, including a few details about Eileen.

One of your greatest moments in life was when you said âI doâ to the greatest man youâve ever known. Youâve spent 4 wonderful years with the love of your life until it crashed and burned to the ground. Youâve definitely had great moments with Sam Winchester, after all, you were thinking of having kids with the man.
However, where there are good things, there are bad ones and you just knew, towards the end of your marriage that things werenât going to get better. You loved Sam with all your heart and that was never going to change, however, you didnât think you two should be together.
It started off with the small things. You were a hunter and before you and Sam ever got together, you would hunt with the Winchesters. You were good at it, killing monsters left and right. It was one of the reasons Sam fell I love with you. Then, you two started dating and Sam got more protective over you.
You thought it was sweet at first. You didnât want to see him get hurt either and would sometimes try and protect him. However, it got to the point where you couldnât leave the Bunker without him asking you where you were going. You tried to brush it off since the last time Sam loved a girl like you was with Jessica.
But, it got too much for you to handle. You couldnât breathe right without Sam being up your ass all the time. You couldnât take it anymore and decided to leave for a few days. You needed to get your head in the right space, trying to figure out how to deal with this all.
You didnât tell Sam you were leaving, only Dean. You made him promise not to tell Sam and you left, glad to be on your own for a few days. However, while you were out enjoying yourself, you saw a hunt present itself to you, and you decided to take it, always having extra weapons on you for safe keeping. You never know in the world of hunting.
Long story short, you were captured and had to wait for Dean and Sam to come get you. Needless to say, Sam was pissed when he found you. He didnât say anything until you were all back at the Bunker. Dean tried to get Sam to calm down on the way over to you but with no luck.
You wished Dean hadnât stayed for this fight, but he wanted to make sure you were okay. Again, long story short, you and Sam ended up yelling at each other for the whole night, arguing about hunting on your own.
You were a hunter before meeting Sam and Dean and youâve hunted alone most of your life. You know that you, being on a hunt alone, isnât what was the problem. You tried to get Sam to tell you about it but he wouldnât, so, you threatened him with a divorce, saying how this obsession has got to stop.
He let you go. He couldnât legally file for divorce, but he managed to do it (with the help of Castiel) and now here you were, 6 months down the line, alone and heartbroken. You thought you and Sam had something more special. He didnât even bother fighting for you when you mentioned the word âdivorceâ.
Seeing how he spent so much time up your ass, you thought he would at least care for you. Maybe Sam wasnât the man for you, maybe he was only meant for you to see your own self-worth. But the thing was⌠you missed Sam and you loved him so very much. Now he was gone and you didnât know the next time you would see him.
You thought you would have run into him on a case somewhere but it never happened. But, that never stopped you from giving up hope and even now, while you were on a small case, you were still hoping your cell phone would ring and it would be him, ready to apologize to you.
Well, your phone did ring but it wasnât Sam. It was Dean. Dean, you still liked. Dean, you still talked to every once in a while, getting updates on their lives⌠Samâs life.
âDean, hey, long time, no talk.â You said once you picked up.
âHey, Y/N, how are you doing?â He asked, his voice strained a bit.
âFine, are you okay?â You asked, noticing something was off right away.
âYeah, I want to catch up, you know that, but I kind of need your help.â
âMy help? What could you possibly need my help with? Donât you have Sam and, I donât know, and Angel?â You said, sighing deeply.
âYeah, listen, Cas isnât much help right now and Iâm not with Sam. Weâve decided to take a break.â
âWait, why? Is everything okay with you two?â You asked, worried that you were the one to cause a fight between the brothers.
âYeah, no, everything is fine. Look, could you please meet me? Where are you?â
âIn Wisconsin but sure, Iâll meet up with you if you promise to explain what is going on. Also, if you promise that Sam isnât going to be there when I get there. I donât know if Iâm ready to see him right now.â You admitted, your voice getting lower with each word.
âI promise. Iâll text you the details. I really owe you one.â
âYeah, you do, Winchester.â You said, hanging up shortly after. You sighed, seeing the details Dean had sent your way. You had no idea what was going on with him but this was Dean, of course you were going to help him. A small part of you hoped that he lied and that Sam really was going to be there. But, based on the way he treated you, you hoped that he wasnât.
You got to the isolated house that Dean had invited you to and got out of your car, looking around the place. There was nothing for miles and you wondered why Dean was here, out of all places. Was he hiding form someone? Was he hiding someone here? You had a ton of questions but they would only get answered if you walked inside the house.
You saw the Impala and immediately, your mind was filled with memories of you and Sam and the nights spent in the backseat. You sighed, shaking them out of your brain for the time being. You couldnât help Dean if your mind was filled with Sam. At least he wasnât going to be here.
You walked up to the front door and found it unlocked, walking inside without waiting for someone to come to the door.
âDean! Iâm here!â You said, closing the door with a heavy thud.
âDean, you called her here?â You froze at the sound of the one person who you dreaded seeing. You slowly walked into the living room and saw Dean bickering with his brother. Upon entering, both brothers pulled away with Dean looking at you and Sam looking at the ground.
âYou said he wasnât going to be here.â You said, looking at Sam who refused to look at you.
âWell, that shouldnât matter, right? Youâre already here and we do kind of need your help. We would call Cas but heâs been MIA for quite a while and we didnât have anyone else to turn to.â Dean said sheepishly.
âThere is literally 5 other people we could have called, Dean.â Sam said, his voice low as if he didnât want you to hear it but you did. You sighed and felt your heartbreak at this. Sam scoffed when Dean didnât say anything and left you and Dean alone.
âI think you better call someone else. I donât think Iâm wanted here.â You said, turning around to leave.
âNo, stay, please?â Dean said, rushing over to you and grabbing your arm lightly. âCome on, we both need you here. We worked so well in the past. Come on, Y/N, please. For me?â You sighed and turned back around, your arm still in Deanâs hand. You stared into the green eyes that begged you to stay.
âAlright, fine, what are we dealing with?â You asked, trying to push the thought of Samâs attitude into the back of your mind.
âA Nephilim. Look, you knew that Lucifer was going to be a problem before and you knew he impregnated a woman, right?â Dean said, letting your arm go.
âDonât bother telling her this, Dean, I donât think she could help.â Sam said, walking back into the room.
âSam, please, donâtâŚâ Dean said with a sigh.
âNo, Dean, let Sam say what he wants. I think he forgot who it was that helped him finish not one, not two, not even three, but a ton of cases because he was too dumb to figure it out for himself.â You said, glaring at Sam. You thought that once you saw Sam, you would realize how stupid you two were being and forgive each other but that clearly wasnât the case. He didnât want you here, well, you were going to make sure that you would stay here.
âAre you forgetting who had to save your ass because you got yourself captured not one, not twice, not even three times but a ton of times?â Sam retorted. You were about to say something when Dean cut you off.
âBoth of you, knock it off! Sam, how is Jack?â Dean said, looking at his brother.
âHe wonât stop staring at me. He wonât even let me enter the room.â Sam said, sighing.
âWho is Jack?â You asked.
âLuciferâs son.â Dean said, looking at you. Â
âLucifer has a son? You didnât get Kelly to kill the baby?â You gasped, hitting Dean in the arm.
âHey, she tried to. She actually tried to kill herself but Jack wouldnât let her. We need your help with him. He wonât listen to any of us and we thought that he might listen to you.â Dean said, giving you those puppy eyes again.
âUgh, fine, but only for you, Dean. Itâs bad enough Sam is here.â You said, glaring at Sam before pushing past both Winchesters. You left the room but stayed by the door to hear what they were saying because you knew that as soon as you left, an argument would erupt.
âDean, why the hell did you invite her here?â Sam said, glaring at his brother.
âYou know why, Sam. Youâre pissy every single day and frankly, itâs getting on my damn nerve. Now, you let her walk away the first time, donât make that mistake again.â Dean said, glaring at Sam. Neither brother was backing down from this.
You got tears but wouldnât let them fall. You sighed and walked down the hallway to the only bedroom in the house. You sighed and knocked on the door just so Jack would know you were coming in. You didnât wait for him to answer you and you opened the door, seeing the frightened child huddled in the corner.
âHi, Jack, you donât know me but my name is Y/N.â You said, seeing his eyes glow yellow upon you stepping into the room. Shit, that wasnât good.
âOkay, look, I know youâre scared right now. Your mother just died and your father is locked away right now but I wonât hurt you.â You tried again, walking a bit closer to him. He growled, seeing how you were getting closer and you stopped, fearful that he would kill you.
âLook, Jack, Iâm sorry this is how you were brought into the world. Itâs a shitty world right now but just let me help you. Iâm not your mom, I know this, but if you let me, I would like to try. Sam and Dean, they wonât hurt you. Theyâre good people. Theyâre just confused because, well, weâve never met a Nephilim before. You understand, right?â You said, trying to be gentler with him. He stopped his growling but his eyes stayed yellow.
âItâs okay to be scared. Iâm scared, but not of you. Look, I can see youâre hurt, youâre bleeding. Let me help you.â You said, staring into his eyes. He sighed and his eyes turned back to their normal color. You smiled, sitting on the bed, waiting for him to come to you.
He got up slowly and walked over to you, sitting next to you on the bed. He reluctantly gave you his arm where you saw a cut was. You looked into his eyes and smiled, looking at the wound. You were about to get up and get the first aid kit when there was a knock on the door.
âCome in.â You said. The door opened and when Jack saw Sam and Dean, he growled, his eyes turning yellow.
âHey, Jack, itâs okay. I told you they wonât hurt you. I wonât let them hurt you.â You said, looking at him. He looked at you and nodded, calming down.
âIâm going to get the first aid kit, so Iâll be right back.â You said to Jack, getting up from the bed but he gripped your arm tightly, not wanting you to leave.
âJack, hey, itâs okay, Iâll be right back.â You said, looking at him.
âNo, stay.â He said.
âOkay, fine, will one of you get the kit?â You asked Sam or Dean, sitting back on the bed. Dean left before his brother got a chance to, leaving you and Sam to stare at one another.
âWow, youâre better with him than Dean and I.â Sam said, not knowing where to look.
âYeah, go figures, huh? Iâm surprised you left him in this room all by himself. You were so far up my ass, you barely let me breathe on my own.â You said, glaring at Sam.
âOh, I was up your ass? How could I be, when you left to go on hunts by yourself? Did you have no regards to other peopleâs feelings?â Sam asked, stepping into the room. Jackâs grip on you tightened and you turned to him, putting a hand on his back.
âItâs okay, Jack. Weâre not fighting. No, if we were fighting, Sam would be yelling shit left and right, throwing things to make him more macho.â You said. Sam was about to yell at you when Dean came back to the room.
âGod, what is with you two lately? You used to be in love with each other.â Dean said, handing you the kit. You turned to Jack and patched up his arm. Smiling at him when he was good as new. You figured since he was new to this world, his powers havenât taken effect yet.
âYeah, Dean, used to, as in, not anymore. Itâs funny how a person can change so much.â You said, looking at Sam while you said it.
âI changed? You were the one who left me.â Sam said.
âYeah! Because you were obsessive! You barely let me leave the Bunker and if I did, you wanted to come with. Like, dude, have you heard of personal space?â You accused him.
âItâs not my fault I wanted to protect you! Sorry, I cared too much!â Sam said with a glare. You were about to say something when you looked at Jack.
âWhy donât you get some sleep, okay?â You said. Jack nodded and he laid on the bed. You sighed and moved Sam and Dean out of the room. You hated fighting in front of children, you didnât care if this child was a Nephilim.
You stormed away from the bedroom and to your bag, throwing the first aid kit on the couch. You grabbed your bag and sighed.
âNo, Y/N, where are you going? We need you.â Dean said, pushing his brother to the side.
âNo, Dean, you donât!â You said, turning around with tears in your eyes. âI donât want to stay here when the person I love the most hates me and canât stand to be around me. Iâm leaving, Dean, and this time, Iâm not coming back.â You looked at Sam to see him carry a guilty look but you didnât care.
You left the house, walking to your car. You needed to get away from here or else your heart would break even more. You threw your bag in the backseat and was about to get in the car when a voice stopped you.
âY/N, waitâŚâ Sam said with a sigh, sticking his hands in his pockets. You didnât turn around because if you did, your heart would break more.
âSam, just go away. I donât want to hear it.â
âI love you. I donât hate you.â He blurted out, making you freeze. You turned around and looked at him, your angry façade crumbling.
âYou love me?â
âI never stopped.â
âI donât understand, Sam.â You started to say but Sam cut you off.
âNo, listen, I know Iâve acted like a dick, asshole, douchebag, whatever you want to call me, Iâve acted like it and you didnât deserve any of it. I hated watching you walk out but I hated myself for not stopping you. I shouldnât have let you go.â He said, sighing deeply.
âThen, why did you? Sam, why were you treating me like a child? I know for damn certain it wasnât because you didnât want me to hunt alone. Thatâs bullshit.â You said, needing an explanation.
âI wanted to protect youâŚâ Sam said, trailing off.
âNo, Sam, donât give me that. How you treated me, that wasnât protection, that was possession.â You said, taking a few steps closer to him.
âNo, you donât get it, Y/N. I watched Jessica burn on the ceiling. I could have protected her but I didnât. I pulled in Eileen into this life we live and she died because of me. I couldnât protect her. Everyone I meet, dies and itâs all my fault. I couldnât let that happen to you. Youâre the love of my life and if you died because of me, I wouldnât be able to live with myself. Pushing you away seemed like the easier choice.â Sam said, looking at the ground.
Your heart quenched at this and you sighed, walking closer to him, putting your hands on his chest. You made him look at you and you stared into his eyes.
âSam, I know how to take care of myself. I appreciate you wanting to protect me and look out for me but you canât be there all the time. I married you because I felt safe with you, because I love you. That will never change no matter how much of a dick you act like. I married you because youâre Sam Winchester. You protect me just by being there for me.â You said, moving your hands to around his neck.
He placed his hands on your waist and you could see the tears in his eyes.
âI love you so much.â Sam whispered.
âI love you.â You said, standing up on your toes and pressing your lips against his. You havenât felt at home in a while but you were home right now. You knew that you and Sam would be okay from this moment forward. You two would face the whole world together but it didnât matter as long as he was by your side.
