Broadcast on this night (6 February 1978) at 8 pm: ABC Monday Night Movie of the week The Initiation of Sarah. (Tagline: “An innocent coed, a secret society … Its bizarre rites of womanhood … Suddenly, a quiet college campus is plunged into an endless night of terror!”). God knows I love kitschy made-for-TV movies, and Sarah represents a kind of zenith. This one is blatantly indebted to Carrie (1976). Or as Sam Pancake puts it on his podcast (devoted to the 1970s and 80s l'âge d'or of made-for-TV movies) The Monday Afternoon Movie, “What if Carrie went to college?" That's a question few people asked, but the 1978 TV movie The Initiation of Sarah seeks to answer it anyway.”  Comprehensively stealing every scene in a supporting role as the sorority “house mother”, a bewigged Shelley Winters (in her 1970s hagsploitation era) furiously acts up a storm as only she can.
