sweater that has been on my needles for a ridiculously long time. started this in may, almost finished the first sleeve on the drive to my brother’s college graduation, then let it sit in my knitting basket for...months. i cast this on because i had a revelation that my need for a Tube Project (all stockinette knit in the round) could, in fact, include basic sweaters, not just like...random hats and cowls and stuff, and this was my tube project for a week, and then...it sat in my knitting basket. forever. whoops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it looks stiff because i haven’t blocked it yet, i’m sure the sleeves will look drapey afterward

made a skirt. extremely basic mostly followed this tutorial just an elastic waist gathered skirt but the gathers were just done with cutting the elastic until it fit. cotton flannel fabric, two rectangles seamed together to get a waist measurement of 2x my waist, side seam pockets which are always a pain to do bc i’m impatient but which i would die without lmao. also these pictures are mad unflattering and don’t show the hem that goes right below my knee and i was like okay this oversized sweater doesn’t work with this why not just show the tee shirt i’m wearing right now instead and also my face is cropped out because i have a massive zit on my chin. it happens

this fabric is from joann’s that i got for $3 a yard (took 2) and i originally got this flannel and one with planets on it when they had a flannel sale bc i use cotton flannel for a lot of household stuff and might as well buy when it’s cheap and also this one was so girly, as is all the other cotton flannel in my stash, and i had to line something for my dad with girly flannel once so i was like okay we can’t just get flowers, samantha. we are getting flannel print with planets. and usually i like having cotton flannel on hand to make cloth pads for myself or reusable makeup remover wipes (literally just a two-sided square with the edges serged) for my mom and me so the pattern is just for fun and not a big deal but my mom thought this fabric was too pretty to waste on those haha. hence a skirt. and now i want more. theoretically this should be a fast project but i added pockets which probably took longer to add than the skirt itself would otherwise take to make. 

this DESPERATELY needs a block to even out the lace (you can see the puckering pretty clearly around the eyelets) but FINISHED SWEATER!!!!!!!!!! this is a ranunculus (if you knit / are on ravelry you’re probably like “fucking obviously”) by midori hirose & i used hudson and west weld and knitting for olive silk mohair. it was supposed to have full-length sleeves. now. here’s the thing for those unaware. this pattern has 12,000 ravelry projects, so there are at minimum 12,000 of these in existence, and the pattern calls for lace weight yarn on huge needles, and the pattern’s samples are all extremely airy tops. the appeal of this pattern is that in theory you can use any weight of yarn and all you need to do is figure out what kind of fabric you want and adjust your gauge accordingly. but the problem as a result is that, unlike with more conventional patterns in which the required yarn yardage is pretty clear and obvious, this has you at a loss for how much you actually need. i saw a sample of one of these in a similar but more pinky purple color at one of my favorite yarn stores that’s unfortunately not local to me, and when i was there, i asked the woman who owned the store how much yarn it had taken to make the sample, and she said 150g fingering weight plus like 30g mohair. so i bought 150g fingering weight and 50g mohair, figuring i would have plenty. but i had my gauge significantly tighter for the fabric i wanted (the pattern is one size and that one size would give me a lot of ease to the point of being unflattering) so i ended up running out of mohair :( so short sleeves it is! the reality of this put me in a knitting slump for like two months (everything but the extra inch and a half on the sleeves i knit in like. a week. and then this hibernated for like. three months. and i finished it in like two hours lmao) and i need to keep telling myself THERE WILL BE MORE YARN!!!!!!!!!! I CAN ALWAYS MAKE A SECOND ONE OR TEAR THIS APART IF I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE IS NO SCARCITY HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but that being said just wearing this with some high waisted leggings like lowkey it is so cute..............this mohair actually feels next-to-skin soft to my surprise but also it’s expensive so NOT A SHOCKER LMAO

also my phone is almost six years old so we will not be talking about the white balance on these photos.
