Salvagent Driver ββββββββββββββββ If a Cyberse Link Monster you control is destroyed by an opponent's card effect while this card is in your hand or GY (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card. You can discard 1 Spell, then target 1 Cyberse monster in your GY; Special Summon it, but it cannot attack directly this turn. You can only use each effect of "Salvagent Driver" once per turn. ββββββββββββββββ Can Be Found In: Code of the Duelist (COTD-EN005)
Usually monsters sharing a Type will also create their own build thanks to effects and supporting cards that can work with, and that's no exception for Cyberse. A debuting Type along Link Summon, Cyberse monsters are all about setting up the arrival of all sorts of Link Monsters from early to late game. That might not be that different compared to many other strategies focused arround the Extra Deck, but since is a Type rather an archetype they can mix along several options to diversify their setups from early to late game.
"Salvagent Driver" is a high Level creature that will mostly work as a setup tool as the Duel progresses. If a Cyberse Link Monster is destroyed by an opponent's effect (Not during Damage Step), "Salvagent Driver" will Special Summon itself from our hand or Graveyard. Once on the field, "Salvagent" allows us to discard a Spell Card to revive a Cyberse in our Graveyard as loses the ability to directly attack the opponent. Overall, "Salvagent Driver" will work as a backup plan due the nature of its own summon, and with plenty of Cyberse to target during those circumstances we can quickly prepare all sorts of Extra Deck summons to recover the losses immediately.
As pointed out, while we could Tribute Summon and/or get the assistance of cards of "The Monarchs Stormforth", "Salvagent Driver" will mostly stay on the hold until some threat takes down one of our Link Monsters. Among the cards we can work arround this Type "Formud Skipper" might become the best ally for "Salvagent", as once use on a Link Summon we can search for it and add it to our hand ready for the worse outcomes. Keep on mind that "Salvagent" is able to revive itself with its own effect, so if is not disposed as a material to return later we can instead use cards like "Foolish Burial" or even use it as a discard cost to have it on the Graveyard right from early game. Not only that but "Salvagent Driver" can use its second effect to revive copies of itself, to the point that we could gather all three copies together as soon one of them lands on our field.
"Salvagent Driver" will often become a card to recover from any damages the opponent can cause to our field. While the rest of Cyberse cards brings powerful Link Monsters such as "Firewall Dragon" and "Topologic Bomber Dragon", "Salvagent" will be on standby ready to summon itself once something goes wrong. This might make "Salvagent" summon itself in the middle of the opponent's turn, but since can summon itself from our hand or Graveyard it can atleast become an annoyance as constantly comes back each turn in response of our Link Monsters' defeat. If "Salvagent" manages to be on the board during our turn then its second effect comes into action, not only able to revive other Cyberse including its own copies but also revive Link Monsters to prepare more expensive Link Summons with. The revived Cyberse might not be able to direct attack, but can still attack other monsters and even use their effects to further improve the situation on the Duel. Finally, although discarding a Spell Card is quite a restricted cost, we can use cards like "Galaxy Cyclone" and "Action Magic - Full Turn" with Graveyard effects we can depend on later in the Duel.
It might not have an immediate outcome like many other monsters we can play as materials, yet "Salvagent Driver" becomes a reliable card if we need a quick recovery. Just by the mere fact that can revive itself from the Graveyard along respectable stats, "Salvagent Driver" compensates the high chances of summoning itself during the opponent's turn by the fact that will be always ready to come back once one of our Link Monsters is defeated. Its revival effect might be restrictive by exclusively requesting Spell Cards, but if that means we can revive a Link Monster to prepare the arrival of a stronger creature by using its Link Rating is quite worth the cost. Overall, "Salvagent Driver" might only work as a monster that blocks incoming attacks and effects due the nature of its Special Summon, but that might be good enough to delay the opponent or in the best scenario be prepare a stronger setup by using the just defeated Link Monster.
Personal Rating: B+
+ Special Summons itself from our hand or Graveyard when a Cyberse Link Monster is defeated by an effect + Can revive Cyberse monsters from our Graveyard including Link Monsters + A constant pressence as revives itself during the Duel
- Very slow to work as material specially since will often summon itself during the opponent's turn - Revival effect only available using Spell Cards and forbidding direct attacks from the target
