Salvador was not known as a melancholic person.
Despite his rough edges and usual malicious intents, he was mainly found to be an enthusiastic character, always ready for more drinks, for more missions, for more payment.
But that flamboyant charade was absent as he laid on his side, eyes staring at the wall of his bedroom. The mission had been a success, and like all successes, he celebrated. A loud night of drinks at the Black Dragon base with his closest comrades was in order. And at the end of the night, he kept his tradition of not returning to his room alone.
His favorite nighttime companion laid next to him, with Kabalās chest pressed firmly on to Salās back.
Kabal was something else to Salvador. Cocky, brash, confident, but in search of something. Something neither he nor the speedster could identify. Not that Salvador bothered to contemplate it much, because his thoughts were on something else entirely. Somethingā¦annoying.
It irritated Salvador just how much he was attracted to Kabal. After all, thatās all it could be, right? Simple attraction? What else was there to find between the two on-and-off-again lovers. It was blatant the two found something in each other that they couldnāt find in anyone else in the āDragon. Nights of passion making their relationship obvious to everyone in the base. But Salvador didnāt have the language to describe what he felt for the man.
What was it that kept the lone wolf Salvador returning to Kabal?
āAre you okay?ā
Kabalās voice startled Sal, making him flinch - having thought Kabal to be asleep. And he reacted to the concern in the manās voice as he always did when he was startled, he deflected.
āWhat? What do you want?ā He replied rudely. Kabal didnāt seem to be bothered by the response, wrapping an arm around Salvadorās torso, gently attempting to take the angel assassins hand.
Sal quickly moved his hands away, hiding them both under his pillow. Kabalās voice rang directly in Salās ear immediately.
āWhatās wrong with you? You didnāt have a problem with me touching you ten minutes ago.ā
And with that final sentence, Salvador had reached the end of his emotional rope with nowhere to go. A building desperation in his mind that he had been ignoring was finally unleashed. And much like his favorite weapon, he lashed out.
āMy problem is that youāre still here. What do you want? Why are you still here? What do you get out of staying here?ā
The questions, while genuine, were spoken with so much malice and boiled over anger that Salvador almost flinched at their harshness. But he had already said them, and the silence from his partner made it obvious that Kabal was hurt by them.
The silence in the room was deafening. And Salvador contemplated kicking out Kabal physically, but he wouldnāt need to. As Kabalās hand would roughly grab at Salās chin, forcing the assassin to look at Kabalās pissed off face.
āI get you, Pretty Boy. For just a few minutes before you kick me out and invite me in again tomorrow night!ā
His words were spoken with so much hurt and anger, but Sal wouldnāt see past these emotions, he didnāt want to. He didnāt want to know why Kabal was angry that their arrangement was so limited. He couldnāt bare the idea of something more, even if he himself desired it.
āIf you donāt like it, you know where the door is, Kabal,ā he said dismissively, removing Kabalās hands from his face and turning back to settle down on his bed.
āIām wasting my time.ā Kabal said after another bout of silence.
āYou are. You know how this goes. I donāt know why you bother.ā
And with that final statement, Kabal removed himself from Salvador. Immediately Sal felt a terrible longing ache inside him at the loss of touch, an ache he buried deep down no matter how lonely it made him.
The rustling of clothing was the cue that Kabal was just about ready to leave. Sal ignored it in favor of trying to go to sleep, but Kabal broke his sleeping spell with a few more hushed words:
āYou donāt know even though Iāve told you. You just donāt want to accept it, Salvador.ā
And with that final jab, Kabal made for the door, gear in hand as he stepped over Salās forgotten clothes. Right as Sal heard the door open, there was a pause. And he opened his eyes to see what was keeping the speedster from returning to his own room.

And Sal was silent as Kabal finally exited, the door closing roughly behind him.
