Somebody on my blog got pissed at me for saying that NOAH had an "almost entirely Anglo cast", because:
"Um, Logan LerMAN is 100% Jewish and Jennifer Connelly’s mother is Jewish. They (and in particular Logan) are not “Anglo”. And if you know what a “Lermaniac” is, then you sure as s–t knew that, too."
I replied:
"I only knew what a “Lermaniac” was from a self-described Lermaniac. Certainly outside of this film I have little experience with him as an actor. So his Jewishness, and Connelly’s, were unknown to me, and I stand corrected in that regard.
It doesn’t change the whitewashing of the cast (perhaps “Caucasian” instead of “Anglo” would’ve been more accurate), a fact which has been widely criticized, and was even acknowledged (and dismissed) by the co-writer (in this interview:http://www.thehighcalling.org/culture/noah#.U29KkPldWLz)."
So, they said:
"Oh naturally, a full-blooded Jew with an exclusively Jewish surname, so of course it was “unknown” (and “Anglo” countries rank high on the list of those that didn’t let either of his Holocaust refugee grandfathers in until ”after” WWII was over, so it’s great they get to claim him now).
Oh well, at least you “knew” all the annoying comedians were Jewish. All is as it should be, then."
And then, on my post for Richard Ayoade's THE DOUBLE, they said:
"Jesse Eisenberg is an Anglo-Saxon. He is Anglo, descended exclusively from the original inhabitants of the British Isles.
Well, if you’re going to lie about Lerman’s background, it’s only fair we do so here as well."
Am I being punk'd?
