It's mentioned that, even though Remnant's level of technology is far beyond that of our world, they have never developed a space program because Dust doesn't work the moment it leaves the planet, and the people of Remnant have never bothered to look for an alternative fuel or power source nor is it explained why Dust becomes inert outside of Remnant in the first place. While they have an Internet on Remnant, it's not based on satellites and instead is based on four massive terrestrial communications towers

If Salem from RWBY operated like "The Light" from Young Justice, the show would shift from a battle of "Hope vs. Despair" to a terrifying chess match of "Inevitability."

Currently, Salem often relies on brute force or the emotional instability of her minions (like Cinder), leading to avoidable defeats (like the Battle of Haven). If she adopted the Xanatos Gambit philosophy—where every outcome, even a tactical defeat, advances the strategic goal—she would leverage her immortality to ensure that "saving the day" costs the heroes more than losing would.

Here is a theoretical timeline of how RWBY would unfold if Salem utilized the strategies of The Light.

The Philosophy: The Immortal Game

Like Vandal Savage, Salem is immortal. She shouldn't be rushing. Her goal is to divide humanity so the Gods destroy them. Therefore, her new Standard Operating Procedure is: "Create situations where the heroes' victory causes more division than their defeat."

Volume 1-3: The Fall of Beacon (The "Exposure" Gambit)

The Plan: In canon, Cinder destroys the CCT tower to isolate the kingdoms. The Xanatos Version: Salem orders Cinder to rig the CCT not just to fall, but to broadcast a specific message before it falls.

Outcome A (Villain Victory): Cinder destroys Beacon and the Tower. Panic spreads, Grimm overrun the school. (This is canon).

Outcome B (Hero Victory): Pyrrha Nikos or Team RWBY manages to stop Cinder and save the Tower.

The Twist: If Cinder is captured or the tower is saved, a "Dead Man's Switch" uploads classified files from Ozpin’s scroll to the world news. This reveals that Ozpin allowed a Grimm (Amber) to live in the school vault and that he is essentially an immortal body-snatcher.

Result: Even if Beacon stands, the world turns against Ozpin. The Kingdoms lose trust in the Huntsman Academies. The alliance fractures. Salem wins the "hearts and minds" war without firing a shot.

Volume 5: The Battle of Haven (The "Martyr" Gambit)

The Plan: In canon, Salem creates a straightforward ambush at Haven Academy to get the Relic of Knowledge. It fails spectacularly because the White Fang turns on them and the police arrive. The Xanatos Version: Salem anticipates betrayal. She knows Raven Branwen is selfish and that the White Fang is unstable.

The Setup: Salem instructs Leo Lionheart to officially "request aid" from the Atlas Military before the battle, knowing Ironwood is paranoid.

The Trap: When the heroes arrive to save Haven, they aren't just fighting Cinder; they are fighting in a political powder keg.

Outcome A (Villain Victory): They get the Relic.

Outcome B (Hero Victory): The heroes defeat Cinder and save the school.

The Twist: Salem has Lionheart publicly frame the heroes and the faunus for the attack before he dies. Or, she ensures the battle causes massive collateral damage to the city of Mistral.

The Kicker: She allows the heroes to "win" the Relic of Knowledge, but places a tracker/Grimm beetle on it (similar to the Starro tech in YJ S1E25). Now, the heroes are unknowingly carrying a beacon that attracts high-level Grimm to them wherever they go, endangering civilians and making the populace hate Team RWBY for bringing danger to their towns.

Volume 7-8: The Fall of Atlas (The "Ironwood" Gambit)

This is where the Young Justice comparison shines. In YJ Season 2, the Light manipulated public perception (The Reach) and paranoia. Salem would do the exact same with General Ironwood.

The Plan: Instead of invading with a giant whale immediately, Salem uses "The Light's" subtle touch. She doesn't attack; she threatens to attack.

The Setup: Salem sends a single, unkillable Grimm (like the Hound) to sabotage Mantle’s heating grid, but leaves evidence suggesting it was Atlas technology.

The Squeeze: She creates a "Prisoner's Dilemma." She messages Ironwood: "Give me the Staff of Creation, and I will spare Mantle."

Outcome A (Ironwood Submits): She gets the Staff instantly. Atlas crashes. She wins.

Outcome B (Ironwood Fights - Canon): Ironwood goes crazy with paranoia, enacts martial law, and tries to raise Atlas, abandoning Mantle.

The Twist: Salem does not invade yet. She waits. She lets Team RWBY fight Ironwood. The heroes fight the military (Civil War).

The Xanatos Gambit: By waiting, she forces Team RWBY to destroy the Atlas military for her in the name of "justice." When the military is exhausted and Ironwood is defeated by the heroes, then she drops the Whale.

Result: The heroes have no ammo left. They look like traitors who dismantled the kingdom's defenses right before an invasion. Humanity is not just destroyed; they die hating the heroes.

The Endgame: The "Gods" Gambit

In Young Justice, the Light is prepared to ally with Darkseid because they believe they can eventually outsmart him. Salem’s ultimate goal is summoning the Brother Gods to judge humanity.

The Canon Flaw: If she summons them now, everyone dies (including her, she hopes). But the Gods might just leave her alive on a dead planet. The Xanatos Correction: Salem creates a scenario where the Heroes are forced to summon the Gods.

She systematically destroys the resources (Dust) and safe havens, making the world a living hell.

She leaks the information about the Relics explicitly to Ruby Rose.

The Gambit: She backs the heroes into a corner where their only hope of saving anyone is to bring the Relics together and beg the Gods for help.

If the Gods arrive and see a united humanity? Impossible, Salem has spent decades sowing division.

If the Gods arrive and see war? They wipe the board.
