Selamat Hari Raya Nyepi! Today marks the third of the six-day New Year celebration in Bali, also know as Nyepi or Day of Silence. Shops are closed, no cars are allowed on the street, no light is to be it in any Balinese home, hotels need to draw all curtains, basically the entire island comes to a standstill. The day is meant for self-reflection, and by halting all activities, the Balinese Hindus believe this non-movement will not distract them from religious cleansing.
