Saint Genet is proud to present a short 10 minute sample of the 3 hour epic performance that was "Frail Affinities". Presented at Kunsthalle Krems for donaufestival16 this work signals the second piece in Saint Genet's 3 part cycle which began last year with "An Exemplary Case of Love Without Respite" and will culminate next June at Wiener Festwochen. We would be remiss not to personally thank everyone that helped this amazing piece of installation, music, and performance enter the world shedding light on the things better left unseen, unfelt, or unknown; an impossible task made heartbreaking in its own impossibility! For now, we must thank DL Salo,Alexander Nowak and Brian Lawlor for working with, rather than against, the most difficult and annoying of situations: a director demanding specifics yet out of reach in AK, their fellow collaborators in distant countries and time zones, and time always working against them allowing the memory of the work sentimental (something we will never accept).They capture the agreed upon fact: "that ours is to be an exemplary case of love without respite opening a psychic space in the very center of indifference...This can never happen but always is. There is madness here. Extraordinary things happen rarely anymore."

The installation “Who With Their Fear Is Put Beside Their Part” is a collaboration between Derrick Ryan Claude Mitchell (Concept, Director, Sculpture), Casey Curran (Kinetic Sculpture) and Ben Zamora (Light Sculpture). In the truest tradition of Joseph Beuys the installation “Who With Their Fear Is Put Beside Their Part” is a conceptualized space that vacillates between ethereal and haunting, that is at once on the brink of smoldering terror and euphoric collapse. The space shifts between installation, environment, lasting image, and performance creating a disturbing and palpable history allowing the lingering ghosts of pilgrims and migrants to find their way through Zamora’s haunting lights and Curran’s hypnotizing sculptures. Consisting of almost 200 hanging fluorescent tubes illuminating a baroque burial ground for ten taxidermied rabbits set into a trypophopic latex floor, this installation was created as an environment to house the premiere of Saint Genet’s new hysteric opera.  “Frail Affinities” is a six day trial consisting of bloodletting, exhaustive dance, and body-based performance actions which slowly build to the ecstatic and hysteric. “Who With Their Fear Is Put Beside Their Part” is co-produced by Kunsthalle Krems donaufestival and Wiener Festwochen. A short selection of shots from director Derrick Ryan Claude Mitchell's presentation of Christopher Burden's SHOOT, Nearly Nearly Invisible and Paradisiacal Rites.

SHOOT was re-performed at Dawn on May 19th. Mitchell was shot with a .22 caliber rifle, before walking 10 miles to Pioneer Square where he performed Nearly Nearly Invisible. Nearly Nearly Invisible consisted of a ritual leeching and wine drinking process, supported by a series of bands in Seattle's historic Pioneer Square. Mitchell then walked 5 miles to On The Boards where his opera Paradisiacal Rites was finishing its United States Premiere.
