In the midst of the She Is Love video series I’m curating, “Celebrate Mary Magdalene”, I’m taking a moment to honor my patron Saint, Santa Anna (Anne). In the folkloric traditions, Santa Anna is the grandmother of Jesus and is sometimes depicted at the major events of his life, but more often than not, is pictured with her daughter, Mary (“the virgin”). For me, the grandmother archetype resonates as an aspect of the primordial goddesses: the Great Goddess and the ancient Paleolithic Venus figurines. She is the Cosmic Matrixial container.
