Vaughn is the Quidditch Commentator and when Hufflepuff plays, the Hufflepuff Beaters get more color commentary than any other players, but literally neither of them notice bc Neyo is trying to not kill his teammate and Jet is trying to figure out what Neyo's problem is, but the rest of the student body is all blindingly aware of Vaughn's massive crush on them

Vaughn, meanwhile, thinks he's keeping it together fairly well because sure, his friends know about his crush, but the crushes themselves don't know, so clearly he's got this, guys

(Narrator Voice: He does not, in fact, got this)

Neyo is inching towards begrudging acceptance of Jet as a person when one day, while hanging out with his twin brother Fox, he gets hit with "so when are you gonna ask out that Ravenclaw"

Neyo is not proud of the fact that the first thing out of his mouth is "Jet's not a Ravenclaw"

Much later, after a LOT of teasing and Neyo wrestling Fox to the ground and sticking a chocolate frog down his trousers, Fox says "Okay but that Ravenclaw has a massive crush on you, you know that right?"

"What Ravenclaw? And how do you know this? You're a Slytherin."

Fox gives him a look that says Fox thinks that he received all the braincells and then some between the two of them "everyone knows that he has a crush on you and Jet. Except you, apparently. The Quidditch Commentator?"

My C chord always sounds a bit funny, you kinda just get used to it. Have you tried F yet? That on is a doozy

F is the worst! And G can be a bit tricky too.

This is all fascinating, because I’m having no trouble with G at all (I actually really like G, but I am weirdly partial to G in general, I love it on the uke too and tend to write songs in G). I’m having a slight struggle with F in terms of my hand cramping when I play it (partially due to some bandaged fingers from a cut while cooking), but I’m not having trouble making it sound like F. 

Whereas with C it both hurts to do the chording AND ALSO sounds very wrong. And I can’t diagnose WHY it’s wrong, like I think I’m probably not fretting properly and also I know I’m tending to brush the high E when fretting the B string above it, but even when I lay the guitar down and very carefully only fret the C chord, it sounds terrible. I’ve checked my tuning, I even got one of the ukes off the rack and played a C to compare, and it sounds...it sounds like it’s maybe sharp somehow? 

There’s also an issue with the pitch of the guitar regardless, it’s lower than I like to sing, so I’m going to get a capo and see if that helps. For now I’m actually chording the A and B strings and strumming lightly, a trick I learned to play a non-barre E on the uke (there’s a certain way to play E on uke where you fret two strings and just strum super light).

LOL I am well familiar with bar chords from the ukulele, where they’re bad enough -- I had hoped they might be easier or at least less common on the guitar, but I see that is not the case...

Are you having problems with C specifically or is it changing from C into G and vice versa? If you do the pinky version of G (pinky on the high E, ring on the low E, middle on the A) it can the transition a lot easier

Well, I’m struggling with transitions in general right now but that’s just lack of experience/muscle memory -- my folks got me the guitar for Christmas and I wasn’t able to actually get it until this month, so last night was my second or third time ever even trying to play. Right now I’m pulling up tabs (mainly songs I learned to play Uke with) on one half of the screen and common chords on the other and trying to get through them, but so many of my tabs are in C that the Struggle Is Real.

Gree, predictable in all manners that include the tiny Jedi, melts. Eyes gone soft and melty and gooey at the thought of his kid fleecing the men mercilessly.

Disgusting, and all the parental emotions oozing off him is probably infectious.

Though Neyo will admit that the kid was doing pretty good, and she was, possibly, karking adorable. 

She was also a fucking card shark and it was hillarious watching her smile at everyone, all innocence and naivete, as her hand somehow lost 5 cards in one round and then proceed to beat them all brutally.

Shouldn't it be "to purrtect and BE served"?

1) I approve. 2) I think you need to consider the fact that March is now the month that requires surviving, and lay off February in the future. 3) I remember when you used to call them doonagh days, and this is like two or three weeks of it!

OMG yes doona days! Although I still have to work from home and I need two monitors to do it, so a desk is necessary. But at least my commute is shortened.

Well, I only had two Ed Emberley books, the Big Purple and Big Orange, and I figured I’d make purple a brand. :D 

I have the sequel to the Purple Cow book too, I probably have enough content to at least get us to May. Oooh and I have my Halloween Crafts For Kids book around here somewhere, it has the best “paper bat” template in it.

I have a problematic relationship with duvet covers, they're far too much bother to wash weekly so yeah, top sheets rock. But then, my bedding is more traditional, in that I often have a quilt or coverlet over my duvet, so it's not like I'm doing the whole all in one thing anyway.

I used to do duvet-plus-quilt in winter, but then I got a super thick duvet and started overheating if I did it that way...

Oh yeah. And I have to admit there is a very nice feeling in just crawling directly under a blanket. But my days of No Topsheet are long past me now...

Top sheets can be used as a bottom sheet if they are big enough to be tucked under. Also, sew 2 together with an open end to make a new duvet. My kid (who is old enough to called a full grown ass man now!) also hates top sheets. I figured it was generational.

Is Clint a former carnie in the Foodieverse? Because if so, he would probably be the one leading the charge on this one. Deep fry that sucker and put it on a stick! Just ask @scifigrl47 for Food Tales from the Big E for inspiration.

I dream of the year I can go to the Big E. Sci does NOT HELP by sending me photos and descriptions of the horrifying food.

I’m having difficulty parsing your sentence— do you mean “not one of them would truly believe they could improve it” or like, they all know they could improve it but don’t try to? Sorry I didn’t get very much sleep and I’m very confused

It’s ok, I was unnecessarily obtuse :D What I meant was that they all secretly think they can improve on it but won’t voice that sentiment aloud :D

Sam, that's ceiling texture that's unpainted. Don't sand it, it will just make everything look more obvious. Get your artsy side on. Smoosh the spackle on with your fingertips, work it under the edges of the existing to help glue down anything loose and dab it with your fingers to mimic the texture. I'd your dabs are too pointy you can let it partially dry and flatten the blobs a bit or very lightly sand. Basically, finger paint with mud.

Yeah, most smooth patches do look very obviously like patches, but it does need at least a little sanding once it’s on there, just so it’ll take the paint easily. I’m not overly worried; it’s an area people aren’t likely to be gazing at in detail :D I’m more concerned with the paint color on the ceiling making it stand out anyway, but who knows, the kilz might  blend. If it does, there are a few other patches I could hit...

When I painted my living room ceiling a small chip of paint peeled away as soon as the roller touched it. I thought nothing of it and kept painting. I had the entire ceiling covered, and still wet, when it began to fall in big, wet, sticky sheets. There was much screaming.

Ooooooh noooooo, I hope you still had dropcloths down!

They make whiteboard contact paper Sam. Much cheaper and easier than painting.

Possibly cheaper, but between aligning seams, trimming excess, and making sure there are no air bubbles, which is something I am not notable for being able to do with contact paper, I’m not sure about easier :D I found a roll that’s 20′ by 2′ but unfortunately the column faces are between 2′8″ and 3′8″ wide depending on the side.

It’s a very awkward column and not structurally necessary -- it doesn’t hide a support beam but rather a ventilation tube of some kind. But I figure if I need to deal with it I might as well make it something notable and lean into the “giant white column in the middle of the room” concept :D

It’s kind of amazing how much photos of a paint job in progress look like something you’d find at MoMA. I might do a whole mock gallery installation of photos I’ve taken of my paint jobs :D

Sam! I had a teacher who was a scenic painter and he was living in a 3-bedroom rental that was going up for sale, thus he would be evicted when it sold. He had faux-wood grained his floors (and fooled the home estimator person so the real estate description said “hard wood floor in 3rd bedroom”) but to help the house NOT sell he painted a big horrible crack in the plaster so it looked like the wall was caving in and it took a lot longer to sell. Go theatre skills!

AHAHAAH, that’s awesome. Faux painting is hard and boring work, kudos to him!

Re the spare key - you mentioned having a storage space elsewhere in the building. If it can be accessed without needing a key (combination lock, for example) that can be a great place to hide a spare.

I’ve got a key lock on it now, but I might change over to a combination lock, that’s not a bad idea.

have you considered spackling the holes in the ceiling and then instead of patch painting, doing a sort of mural (like a trail of leaves and flowers)? That way you can sort of shrug and let the fact that there's marks and smudges be a point to draw the eye.

I did think about it! But I think with the sharp edges everywhere else it would look a little weird.

Yep, I’m starting to become known to the people at the local hardware store. In part because two of them visibly recoiled when I brought in the sample of red I was going to paint over. 

One of the old dudes who’s only there once in a while calls me Captain America because I always show up with a Captain America shield backpack in which to carry everything.

Always do a second coat. I know it sucks, but the first time you have to wash a mark off the new paint, you'll likely rub through to the old...
