About lesbian happy endings and all: MY GOD i agree so much. My first memory of ever seeing a lesbian couple on tv when i was like 10 on a local tv show and it had one of them dying randomly in a car crash for no reason in the finale after only a few episodes of happiness and hyping them as the new main couple and i remember it affecting me so much without being able to say why?? Then the one who survived hooked up with a barman who had been in love with her for a while but she hadn’t shown any interest before and it was just like, nail in the coffin. Whenever something of that kind happens (see: The 100 recently), i just think about this old show and how shitty it is to kill off your only lesbian/bi female characters since it keeps happening over and over tbh
I haven't seen If These Walls Could Talk 2 so i can't compare but i wouldn't consider Cloudburst to be too sad at all actually! It's a really lovely film and even if i wish they had just gotten married and got some more time to be happy ever after, the ending doesn't feel like a punch in the gut bc at least you know they had +30 happy years together and there is some set up to them not being able to actually keep living happy together prior to their wedding. It’s not ideal but not just like random tragedy happening the second they’re finally getting together you know?
Also talking about this: the unexpected surviving lesbian couple on Hannibal is honestly one of my favourite things ever. I mean, they didn't get much build up yet they were still such a great part of season 3 (i know i’m repeating myself but this season is possibly my favourite thing i've ever watched on tv lmao). I was really expecting one of them to die since season 2 but in the end, they still got to marry and have a son together then they just gtfo and flee to another country when things get too dangerous in the finale, earning what is probably the best ending on a show where it felt like everybody was doomed from the beginning, and i screamed a little tbh
