#saigou

This title image made me kind of sad tonight because I started thinking when we finally get to see the three of them (and Sadaharu) back in their Yorozuya home again, it might also be the last time we will ever get to see them together at home. Omg just typing that out right now made my eyes well up with tears. 

MY 12 FAVORITE MOMENTS IN LESSON 598:

1) Just because I love them and I remember thinking how much I loved them when I first read this chapter.

2) Just because I love him and I remember thinking how much I loved him when I first saw this.

3) The universe’s best puppy.

4) I will always love seeing our Yorozuya going wild and wrecking havoc on those who deserve it.

5) I was so damn happy to see Otae FINALLY join in on the action! I remember wanting SO DAMN BAD to see her fight side-by-side with Kondou. It never happens but gods did I want it to.

6) Kagura using Gintoki, who is nursing a damaged terminal, as a stepstool. I also loved how INTENSE she looked while, in contrast, Otose looked almost bored.

7) I LOVED seeing all those familiar faces from the past returning.

8) Again, I will always love seeing the Yorozuya going wild and wrecking havoc.

9) I was totally moved by the sight of the townspeople jumping in to take back their town from the invaders. 

10) Love these ladies! Agomi’s words are just perfect. Quick trivia: did you know she and Juurouta of Takamagahara are dating? (and if you don’t remember how he looks, it’s totally worth a sec to check him out) I totally forgot about that until I looked up Agomi’s real name because frankly, I completely forgot what it was since she has always been Agomi to me (it’s Azumi). Wish we could have seen the two of them fighting side by side as well. 

11) Just love these back-to-back formations.

12) Zura and Sakamoto looked so damn good in their fancy new threads.

SHIPS TALLY:

Gintoki x Otose: for those who ship them...it was curious that while Otose likened Gin-chan to Gengai’s son, Gengai compared him to her husband, and she didn’t exactly protest that strongly to the suggestion. 

Gintoki x Saigou x Katsuo: it crossed my mind that they would make one fascinating threesome for sure. I would love to see fanart or doujin for them, even if they’re not my ship. 

Disclaimer: Gintama is not only about shipping. Gintama is hilarious, clever, exciting, poignant, heart-breaking, loving, brilliant, and just so freaking amazing.  It is only due to Sorachi-sama’s generosity that I can enjoy Gintama on yet another level, the shippy level, and I am forever grateful for that. GINTAMA IS LIFE AND LOVE.

Dear Gintama gods and Sorachi-sama,

Please allow me to humbly express to you what I am most thankful for in this episode:

- this GinHiji and OkiKagu moment in the opening credits, which I only stupidly noticed in this episode,

- the reference that is still funny even though I’ve given up on that particular show more than a year ago,

- Gintoki’s detachable balls,

- Tae-chan the fighter in action,

- Saigou the ball crusher,

- The Queen of Kabukichou,

- the copping a feel ball crushing club,

- this super (kinda useless) M,

- teamwork, 

- Kyuu-chan,

- her smile,

- the cool albeit brief return of the Yagyuu Elite Four,

- an indulgent grandpa,

- students of the Yagyuu Chinkage Style and the Chinko Volunteer Squad,

- the attack from FOUR directions,

- more strong women warriors,

and lastly, my favorite manga to anime moment:

“You’re the ones who don’t get it. War is an act that affects men, women and children equally and reduces them all to ashes. Surely you didn’t start this war unprepared to swing your clubs at babies and kids. Surely you’re not standing before me unprepared to be cut down by women or children!” 

That speech by Kyuubei: I loved it in the manga and even though it’s changed a little in the anime, I love it even more. She was clearly the MVP of this episode...oozing coolness in every single frame she was in. I have always loved Kyuu-chan but I think I totally fell in love with her here. Somehow she seemed even more dashing in animated form. If Tae-chan had run off with her as a result of this episode, I would have totally understood. Apologies to Kondou. But overall this episode was just so amazing, perfectly capturing the thrilling action within all four chapters in a breath-taking manner. I wish BNP didn’t have to skimp on the animation of some of the facial shots, but I understand why they have to start conserving their budget since there are many more awesome action-packed moments to come that would require all of their resources. I loved seeing all the townspeople take part in defending the town, this was really one of the highlights of the arc, so I am grateful we got to see the events brought to life. Thank you for giving us these great moments and please do not let Gintama end.

This is my New Years resolution for 2017: to re-read a chapter of Gintama every day starting from the beginning and sum it up thusly...

Favorite Scenes from Lesson 38:

I was just so happy with the way Shinpachi answered Kagura’s question. Even though he was still calling Saigou a monster, the fact that he was equating her with Otose instead of going for a demeaning okama crack just warmed my heart and made me love Shinpachi just a little bit more.
