Personal squabbles
Recently, the topic of getting a BA in English happened across my dashboard. I sort of made a misstep when trying to offer advice about English degrees, but it reminded me of my own struggles and I felt like hashing them out here. :)
For most of my life, people have told me I should be a teacher and if there is one thing you should know about me is that I am extremely contrary. Always have been. Everybody kept telling me I should be a teacher, so I didn't want to be a teacher! My true love was reading and I wanted to be a writer! So, when I went to college I got my degree in English.
Of course, people continued to tell me that I should be a teacher and, in fact, for a time I wanted to be a professor. However, that dream faded when I thought about how much more debt I would have to take on. I decided to focus on my original plan: copywriter. I wanted to be a copywriter. I'm actually quite good at it, but I used to be better.
Anyway, that was the big plan. I was going to be a copywriter! Except...I had no idea how to accomplish that. I never went and talked to a counselor. I never did anything. I live very far from New York City and everybody knows that if you want to go into publishing you just have to live in NYC. *sarcasm*
Long story short: I knew nothing. I had no idea what I truly wanted to do. None. I really think that was my problem. I went to college. I took classes. I graduated. While I was taking classes, I should have been thinking about what kind of career I really wanted. I should have been working in that field. If I really wanted to be a copywriter, I could have found something. The Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex is right down the road. I could have found something in the publishing to do. I could have at least tried.
But I never did.
Fast forward two years later and I'm still working at the job I had during college (I've graduated at this point). Then, one day, my friend asks me to come work for her at her after-school program at an elementary school. And you know what? I fucking loved it. I loved working with those kids. Once the school year was over, I applied to my university's teacher cert program and got my certification. I am a teacher now and I love it.
Life is a fickle bitch. I spend a good portion of my life saying I didn't want to teach and what did I do? I became a damn teacher.
Going back to the English degree dilemma though, I don't regret my degree. My communications skills are on par or above teachers who have been in this field for much longer than I have. My higher ups have taken notice (I'm really not trying to brag) and they compliment me on it. When I want to be, I am an eloquent speaker and writer. If teaching doesn't pan out for me in the end, I am not stuck in one field.
I can go into communications.
I can go into advertising and marketing.
I can make a jump back to publishing.
I can go into social media.
I could be a publicist and go into public relations.
I could become a screenwriter.
I could become a speech writer.
I could become a journalist.
I can do anything.
GOD, THAT FEELS SO GOOD TO REALIZE.
You guys have NO IDEA. I just had a freaking epiphany here.
I feel so nice! I really, really do!
I should go thank the person who got this going. :)

I watched some, it’s pretty cool
I've only seen the first couple of episodes, and they were good. I just fail at keeping up with series.
saffaux replied to your post:Wait for the hounds of baskerville,, and the third season.. it will become just awesome
I maintain that if you have to go through 3 seasons for a show to get good then it’s just mediocre.
I'm willing to give Sherlock a bit more wiggle room with there only being three episodes per season.
Episode 2 has been good from start to finish. Episode 1 was lacklustre, but the pilot episode was much better so I'll forgive that. Just about to start episode 3.
If I'm not interested by the end of season two, then I'm not going to watch the third season. Other than my grievances with Sherlock himself, I'm beginning to quite like this series.

You either had a random nosebleed (it happens) or you’re a werewolf.
The clot from my tooth extraction fell out overnight, and the bleeding didn't stop.
So, whilst I am aware that this blood is just from my tooth-wound, to any passerby it does look like I just bit out someone's throat.
I'm sure I can pass off the werewolf look.
