So basically humanity has been all but wiped out by this alien empire called the Gbaba and there's only a few ships left whose big plan is to trick the Gbaba into thinking the humans were eradicated, while secretly making a discreet refuge on another planet. There they would lay low in a technology-less civilization (so the Gbaba wouldn't detect them) until they were prepared enough to strike back.
Except that wasn't what happened. A handful of the surviving Naval crew thought it would be a better idea to brainwash the entire surviving human race (while in cryo sleep) into thinking that technology never existed and that those crew members are angels of God. There are a few crew members who decided to rebel, including Nimue Alban, who had the idea to preserve herself in a robot clone. Nimue died in a suicide mission as planned. The rebels built a secret base in the mountains where they kept libraries preserving human history, while the "angels" brainwashed their cult and essentially rewrote history so that there is no math, no science, and no technological advancement. All is done in the name of protecting humanity from the alien threat but in reality its a cult
But even though Nimue died, she is reborn as a robot clone (a PICA) hidden away in a cave for hundreds of years so that at least there's SOMEONE the angels don't know about who remembers the true history of the human race, and now it's her job to fix everything
Started listening to Safehold recently- this is my main takeaway so far XD
Some of Scrapped Princess's plot reminds me a lot of David Weber's Safehold series.
