Child Proofing
Why is this so important? Before you have a baby, there are so many things you don’t think about. One of them is child proofing. Your home can be a dangerous place for a baby or toddler. They are inquisitive little beings who don’t know what is dangerous and what isn’t. Most cleaning products are made to look bright and cheerful. A child can’t read and won’t understand they shouldn’t drink what is under the sink. It is your job as a parent to keep them safe. The best way to do this is through child proofing. This can be inexpensive, using pool noodles to hide sharp table corners, or using a child’s link toy to close off a cabinet. It isn’t important how you child proof, just that you do. This is especially important if you have a pool, make sure you have a gate that is secure around your pool or that your child cannot open the back door on their own and also that it isn’t left open, this is also important if your neighbor has a pool. Children are quick and will get out, if your neighbor doesn’t have a secure pool, your child may still get in and drown. If you have stairs it is important to put a child gate at the top and bottom. Children love stairs and will try and climb them every chance they get. You have to think like a child in order to really understand what fascinates them. Another thing is to make sure you put anything you don’t want your child getting into, up high so they can’t reach. They have a tendency of surprising you with just how skilled they can be at getting into things you thought were impossible, so be creative. I’d also suggest putting an additional latch up high on each entrance door so that when they are old enough to open doors, they still won’t get out. Toilets should have safety locks on them, a child loves nothing more than to flush everything down a toilet. They can also be drowning hazards. Becoming a parent should never be done lightly, and once you are one, you must make sure you are creating a safe environment for your child.
