I've solved the problem of letting my dog sleep on the bed with me without having him be in danger of falling off and breaking all of his tiny limbs
If I get him to sleep in his little bed, he stays in it
So I put his bed on top of my bed!
This way he is:
* Near me and not Banished Forever To The Cold Unloving Floor (where woe and sadness reign);
* Safe from falling into either the space between mattress and wall, or off the bed;
* And I can feel him there (but just his bed actually so I don't kick him) but he's not taking up 98% of the leg & torso room of my bed [despite being only 11lbs and 11" tall he's got the aura of an elephant]
This is where it ends up in the morning when I'm awake and pull it up from the end of the bed so I can snuggle him before we go about the day :D
This gives us both leg room and space to stretch out while still being near to each other. Success
