The difference between "There used to be hot summers too,β and a climate crisis.
Look, we all know this is true. But there isn't a SOURCE for this, and the graph itself is basically illegible beyond "ooh colors". If we want to be good stewards of our informational resources, we need to cite our sources.
From a reverse image search, I found the website Show Your Stripes, run by the University of Reading in the UK, which is likely where the above graph originated. It provides temperature data for various regions of the world from approximately 1900-2025. For example, here are graphs for Canada, India, and Papua New Guinea:
All clearly show a sharp rise in temperature beginning around approximately the 1980s, which corresponds with the graph in OP's post. But now we know where this data came from, and we can verify its validity accordingly.
[Description for first image:
a bar graph with 0 of the y-axis positioned at the middle height of it. the first 2/3 of the graph along the x-axis are mostly blue bars going into negative y-values, with occasional light red bars going slightly into positive y-values. in the last third, the bars are overwhelmingly red and show a strong increase. the red bars of the first part are labeled "these were hot summers", the bars indicating the strong increase are labeled "this is climate change".

HEY! Did you love our old button-up shirts & skater skirt with pockets? Me too! I've got a handful of skirts left that I really need to get out of our shop so that we can start stocking more shirt styles, so I've dropped the price on both to $35 from $60.
Please get these the fuck out of my house!

I hate the videoification of everything. If I have to hear one more video of someone speaking closely into their shitty mic and I have to have all their yucky wet mouth noises and plosives and nose whistles and throat clearings and sniffles I am going to dig a vertical hole the exact dimensions of my body and Iβm going to slither in head first
as someone with misophonia, the widespread popularization of asmr audio editing + people that are being pushed to make video content with no formal training and have no idea how to edit their audio (ex college professors, average joe tiktokers, etc) is literally my nightmare scenario. this is hell I am in hell
this is actually the last straw for me I need to start sending people emails
Yeeeee off til Monday aft!
My mother is coming this weekend to finally pick up all the stuff she planned to collect last September (all those boxes I used to move my books, the dog crate, yarn), AND she's buying the chest freezer I'm clearing out!
This afternoon I'm racing chores to get them done in as short a time as possible. Laundry load in, takes 29 min to wash, so I'm gonna clear the top of the freezer and the space in front in that time. Drying takes 40min, so clearing the freezer out and setting it up to drain while that goes.
The more stuff done I can get in the shortest possible time, means more time for dilly-dallying; alternating with playing RuneScape, and tackling a surface to clear it. I still have that August 10th deadline of clearing stuff in my space so I'm taking that seriously. Also there's still some residual kid in me who wants to impress my parent when she comes to look at my space LOL but I'm using it to my advantage this time.

Organizing Don'ts #2 [a little black cat says: Itβs best to never say the βUβ word too soon..]
In one-on-ones with your coworkers, saying the βUβ word too early can lead to confusion and/or fear. [a coworker sweats and looks anxious, saying βWhat are you even TALKING about? Oy! No way! Weβll all get FIRED for sure!]
Decades of anti-union laws and propaganda have made the work environment for organizing very difficult. [the little black cat listens to the coworker say, βwhatβs a UNION? Isnβt that ILLEGAL? Why bother?]
Ask questions that help coworkers recognize their power as workers. In due time, youβll all be ready to say the βUβ word together. [5 coworkers Β are all confronting the boss, saying, βUNION!β]

Tapestry creatures π€π·

for years, the game Project Zomboid has pissed me off because approximately half of the female zombies i kill and loot have a "strapless bra" in their inventories. i believe this is casually misogynistic (in a negligent way, not a malevolent one) because most normal women in real life wear strapless bras maybe 4 times in their entire lives, generally to rare events like weddings or prom, and at almost no other time. ie, i will never just be hanging out in my house in a tshirt and jeans with a strapless bra on. never. so i am making this poll to email to the devs when i submit my second complaint about the strapless bra loot table drop rate. you can assist me by voting and reblogging. i added a bunch of options just for fun but the bra/no bra/strapless bra are the big three.
if YOU were turned into a zombie right now, and I caved your head in with a shovel, what kind of bra would i find on your corpse?
WOMEN: what kind of bra or chest undergarment are you wearing RIGHT NOW?
no bra, nothing under my shirt, or entirely topless
"NORMAL" bra: cups, shoulder straps, rib band, underwire or no underwire
STRAPLESS bra
sports bra
binder
bralette or similar item
binding tape, ace bandage or wrap
nipple tape or pasties
compression shirt or bodysuit
tank top/undershirt/bodysuit/leotard of some kind but no "bra" per se
i am not a woman but it's important that i get to participate
i dont have a torso, i am the Fresno Nightcrawler but i want my vote to be count
i am only half serious about this, but i am going to email the devs anyway. politely. because it does bother me. vote Fresno Nightcrawler for βnone of the aboveβ
if you are a parent, or may become one, or you are otherwise likely to arrive in the situation of caring for a child while they eat, promise me this: if a child doesn't like a certain food or food group, you will ask them WHY. and specifically, you will pay attention to either confirming or ruling out "it makes my mouth itch" or "it makes my stomach hurt," both of which are medically important info that children may not provide unprompted. which i know because this PSA has been brought to you by "i spent my entire childhood and much of my early teens eating peas and lentils while wondering why everyone else liked the Violently Itchy Mouth Sensation so much, like were they a bunch of legume masochists or something, before i finally realized that Violently Itchy Mouth Sensation was in fact a sinister demon appearing only to me, and her true demonic name was: Legume Allergy"
Me trying to say something to my partner about some cool fanart I just saw on my dash.
Him: back up back up, what the FUCK is Mouse Effect.
Lizardsex I love you...
The burning question of course is whether everyone is mice, or just the humans. Like are the salarians little frogs or is it Mice and Mice With Blue Tentacles???
sorry im absolutely too floored by the fact you just called me 'lizardsex' to give you an answer
... I see now your name is probably Lizards Exposed and not in fact Lizard Sex Posed.
This exact phenomenon is why thereβs now a hyphen in my url.

Something something- prevalence of generated content (in all of its forms) symptom of an ever-hungry algorithm which demands that content be farmed by any means necessary to satisfy an imaginary customer something something.
The algorithm is not the audience, nor an actual person, and yet it must be catered to with frequent content, tagged for visibility and scanned for inappropriate materials- all of which must be done correctly or it falls into a pit of obscurity.
The algorithm demands content faster than the average person can make, and so a machine is made to create content to feed it. But it is always hungry, and so the machine makes more, and faster. And the algorithm demands more, and faster. And so a machine feeds a machine, both pretending to be human, each providing nothing of substance in return- and thus mimics the cold corporate hands that pretend to have invented it.
