I forget what I was watching but something new was opening up in Israel or something, and they did a sheep sacrifice [I didn’t know they still did that I’m ignorant I know]. Anyway, despite knowing the Bible, and knowing they used to have to sacrifice at the Temple a LOT for the sins of the people, I still had a strong visceral reaction to witnessing a sheep getting it’s throat slit on TV while people clap. It was just so outside my cultural experience I guess. But the point of the sacrifice is the seriousness of doing such a thing. That sheep is supposed to be dying for the sins of the people, because the sin would kill us. I mean obviously as a Christian I believe Jesus’ sacrifice ended the need for that, but it still happened since the dawn of time for thousands of years. Maybe that reaction I had was the point in a way. We’re supposed to have sympathy for the innocent lamb that had to die for us. Otherwise it’s not much of a sacrifice I suppose if... if the humans dont feel anything and they just do it ceremonially because they should....
