Ross Lowel: Matters of Light and Depth.
· One of the best ways to conquer light fright in photography is to mentally break down the subject, the set, and the scene into series of planes.
· The type of natural or artificial source you choose depends on a delicate balance of the subject, mood, working space, level of light required and amperage available. But most often, it depends on what handy equipment is available and whether the sun is shining in the direction on the day you want to shoot.
· To improve shadow quality in photography,
i. Move the light away from the person or object
ii. Set focusing lights at full flood
iii. Put a small glass diffuser close to the front of a lens-less focusing source
iv. Substitute a Fresnel for a senseless source
v. Use only the edge of a hard light
a. How do you deal with lighting, reflections, refractions when shooting objects outside during a rainy day?
b. How can you illuminate very fast moving objects?
c. How do you deal with shooting a single object with different behaviors of light?
