My best guess is that Sburb integrates its seed world's culture into its mythology. After all, we also seem to have Greek gods floating around, and this sword quest is obviously a homage to Arthurian legend.

I do wonder, though - is Caledscratch really a strict upgrade to Caledfwlch, in every respect? More broadly, is alchemy exclusively additive, or does it occasionally erase a useful trait from the original item?
I mean, the Hammerhead Pogo Ride is a worse pogo ride and a worse hammer than its ingredients. Maybe Caledfwlch has properties that its descendant lacks.
