Day 3 - Best Relationship Moment
I could've been really obvious and gone for Damon's confession of love towards Elena in 2x08, but that wasn't my favourite moment. My favourite moment regarding relationships was in both 2x06 and 2x22, when Liz finally came to accept her daughter as a vampire.
Now I know 2x22 is more significant in some ways because Liz wasn't compelled to forget afterwards, but 2x06 was just such a tender and brilliantly scripted moment between mother and daughter that it is so hard to find another parent-child moment which excels it. Liz was never mother of the year for human!Caroline, which perhaps makes it even more significant that she became there for vampire!Caroline from 2x22 onwards. The scene in 2x06 when she compliments Caroline's strength and confidence is so significant in terms of Caroline's growth because she's felt ignored by her mother, rejected, never good enough for her to pay her any attention to, so for her to hear all this it just gives her such a mood boost, and that was so touching to see.
I adore Liz and Caroline's relationship, and though it isn't given much spotlight these days, it's so wonderful to see that it still is so strong three seasons later, and I will forever be grateful for the existences of these scenes that depict such a tender and emotional moment for both mother and child.

Day 2 - Best Character Moment
Elena Stabbing Elijah
Okay so this moment was golden on two levels.
First, it is the prime example of how Elena uses her body to manipulate people in a non-sexual way that makes her stand out from so many other heroines. Rather than constantly whine about how her body is always needed for something or the other, she decides to fight back. This moment is so glorious for her character because it's the moment when she walks that fine line between being a martyr and being a fighter - she becomes both roles. She harms herself to lure a 1000 year old Original into agreeing into her terms...and then she stabs him.
What is NOT to love about this scene?
Secondly, we see a powerful Original, notorious for killing people who dare to betray him or his kin, and we see him outwitted, out-negotiated by a TEENAGE GIRL. And it's something so beautiful, so rare to see that I weep at the sheer perfection of this scene. It was everything I wanted to see and more.
This is without a doubt the best character moment of the season. I just love how Elena handled herself throughout the scene, keeping calm even when it seemed like Elijah wasn't going to buy anything she said, and when she moved in for the kill, it just made me love her even more.
