2017.02.02 SBS 8pm news: Cha Junhwan’s expressiveness upgrade.
Newscaster: Good evening, this is Sports News. The hope of Korea’s figure skating for the Olympics, Cha Junhwan, has been training in Canada. He has not only worked on his jumps extensively but also his expressiveness as well.
CJH: Hello, I am Korea’s figure skater Cha Junhwan.
Voiceover: This is where Vancouver 2010’s ladies champion, Kim Yuna trained, the Toronto Cricket Club. Back then, Coach Brian Orser and well known choreographer David Wilson have worked with Kim Yuna, and now they are currently working with the ‘Male Kim Yuna’, Cha Junhwan. This season, choreographer David Wilson has been working with Junhwan on choreography and music selection, which has greatly improved Junhwan’s expressiveness. Junhwan’s short program music is from the musical A Chorus Line and his free skate is from the II Postino soundtrack. With more training in expression and choreography, Junhwan’s artistic score [PCS], has increased by 10 points compared to last season. Despite being 3rd in the JGPF, his PCS ranked 2nd.
David Wilson: Junhwan is very talented, similar to how Yuna was. He has a wonderful ear for the music, a good range of motion, he really can move and express himself.
CJH: Although the technical elements are important, I also think that the non-jumping elements are just as important. As such, I have been practicing a lot on improving my expressiveness.
Voiceover: With Junhwan’s 4S and expressiveness upgrade, he will be heading to the Junior World Championships looking to win.
