aaaaaa oh my gosh I’m so sorry this is so late ;v; This was one of those asks where I saw the question, went “oh, I’ll get images to better answer this” and then           i got distracted and thus forgot about it OTL Anyhoo here’s a late answer:

I did indeed alter Pyra’s canon design. Similarly to the first Xenoblade Comicals, I alter designs to make them easier/more comfortable for me to draw (Rex is altered too for instance).

I actually don’t have an official “reference sheet” for her. I usually just pull up official art of the character for the first time they appear, alter them in that first comic and then screencap the panel that shows off as much of them as possible for future “refs”. For instance, these are the references I have for Pyra:

It depends on the fic. If it’s a more serious thing that I actually put effort in, I’ll spend more time working on it. I’m terrible at editing and I’m still getting the hang of it, bu I usually spend about an hour or so doing it, sometimes depending on how good/bad my first draft was. 

A good trick I picked up on in one of my classes is to write the thing (in this case, a fic) twice if possible. On the second pass, you know what you want to talk about out and so you tend to focus more on those parts and cut out the less interesting ones without even realising it. Of course you can’t do this for everything, but I’ve found it to be really useful an I use it a lot for essays. I’d recommend trying the trick maybe not for the entire fic if it’s a long one, but on a shorter part of it that you’re unsure about. When editing you should also focus on one thing at a time. In one reading, focus only on spelling/grammar/syntax and the like. In another reading, focus on the content. That way you aren’t spread thin while editing and can work a little better. I haven’t been able to apply this editing style to fics because I’ve been too busy to write any lately, but it works wonders for essays. 

You can also send your draft to someone else and ask them to look it over, they’ll probably catch some things that you won’t. 

For writing, do what you would like to read first and foremost. If your heart isn’t in it, it’s going to be harder to write and you won’t have as much motivation. If there’s something you don’t see but you’d like to see, go ahead and write it!
