Jesse sat and listened carefully to every word Genji said. He watched how he reacted to the clan and scratched that off on the list of things to talk about. He could still remember when someone brought up Deadlock around him. “Fine huh?” He questioned as Genji moved away from him.
He scoffed and tilted his head, “As much as I wanna see your sword against my gun, it ain’t gonna happen anytime soon.” When Genji finally explained his angry he lifted an eyebrow at him. What was said about him got him angry? Part of him inwardly smiled at the idea. “Well, I’m honored that you care so much, but I gotta tell you I don’t give a shit what they say.” He stood up and walked over to Genji. He stood just a bit taller than him, probably by one inch.
“‘How does Reyes’s leash feel?’, ‘Did you lick his boots and bring him food?’” McCree shrugged, “You think I don’t hear? You think I ain’t heard worse? Genji after my first year I stopped giving a shit. What they said didn’t matter, because they didn’t know what it was like.”
He pursed his lips and rolled up his sleeve. The Deadlock tattoo was still on his arm there was a bit of scaring around it, but it could still clearly be seen. “Don’t know how it’s done in Japan,” he spoke softly, “But once you got a mark on you, you belong to them. After I left I didn’t belong to them no more...I was gonna burn it off. That’s what you ‘spose to do.” He pointed to the most prominent scar. “Reyes caught be when I barely started. You should have heard him. You thought he could yell before,” he chuckled fondly at the memory.
“He weren’t gonna let me hurt myself no more. That’s what he said at least, he wasn’t going to let me do something real fucking stupid. That’s what I’m gonna do with you.” He took Genji’s bandaged arm and caressed his thumb over the wrappings. “Don’t let that shit get to you. I don’t care what shit they have to say about me, because that doesn’t matter.” He looked at Genji and squeezed his arm, “This shit matters. This shit here,” he held up his own arm, “This matters. Stop killing yourself on shit doesn’t matter. What he said didn’t make me angry, seeing you hurt yourself made me angry.”
