So I Finally finished Mass Effect: Andromeda after a month or so hiatus and thought I’d add myself to #TheRyderFiles list a bit late.
The Ryder Files: Aleixo Ryder
Favorite Profile:: Sentinel Personality Type: Professional. Love Interest: Reyes Vidal...though broken off during encounter w/ Sloane. Favorite Weapons: Carnifex or Ushior.  Mainly for show and combo detonation stat boosts. Nationality: Half Portuguese, half Brazilian. Bio: From an early age Aleixo Ryder had a strong sense of purpose and moral core.  He signed up for the Systems Alliance as soon as he became of age; “It just seemed like the right thing to do”.  He wanted to become a Sentinel because he liked to fight tactfully, be prepared for any situation, and preferred to throw his enemies off balance and exploit weaknesses over brute force. He excelled at all aspects of tech training and was an expert marksman with the pistol but struggled with his biotics.  Not that they weren’t strong, what he lacked was the ability to manipulate his mass effect fields into anything besides a Throw and Barrier.     Psych reports theorize that his mental block might have to do with the guilt he feels from how he acquired his biotic abilities in the first place. At a young age while visiting his mother’s lab, there was an accident while she was working on some eezo samples.  The explosion was the cause for both his biotic abilities and the scars on the right side of his face.  The accident occurred by Aleixo purposefully not heading the warnings that his mother had given to him prior.  His mother, Ellen Ryder, pushed Aleixo out of the way and took the brunt of the blast.  Unfortunately her exposure to eezo in this incident was the main catalyst for her developing the terminal illness AEND.  Aleixo never forgave himself for that event and it’s what lead him to become the disciplined man he turned out to be.  Being by the book and focused on making a difference in the world, to somehow atone for what he did.  He still refuses all offers at reconstructive surgery to fix the scars on his face.    His perseverance in biotics training eventually paid off but in a different way than expected.  He still never became able to manipulate his fields into any other useful technique, but he was able to manipulate two throw maneuvers at the same time; a feat reserved for only the most adept of Throw users.  This combined with his tech know-how made him able to prime and detonate multiple targets at the same time.  He quickly joined the ranks of the Sentinels and was shipped out to an outpost near Arcturus Station to guard the 202 relay.  Though glad to finally be put on assignment, over time, guard duty made him feel stagnant - he felt like he could be doing so much more to make a difference.  When he heard about the Andromeda Initiative, he jumped at the chance to get on the Human Pathfinder’s team...even if that meant having to work under his father.    Alec and Aleixo never really got along.  Alec was completely distraught after the eezo incident and Aleixo felt like his father never truly forgave him for what he did, even if unintentional.  The miasma of guilt, blame, and remorse in the air whenever they were alone together lead both to avoid the other. Alec focused on his A.I. work and Aleixo on his studies.  Alec did eventually forgive his son but the years of resentment had already taken its toll on their relationship.  Alec was awkward when it came to expressing his emotions, and Aleixo defensively put up a wall of professionalism and emotional detachment when speaking with his father.  In time their relationship became more of a superior/subordinate than father/son; respectful, cordial, but emotionless.    Aleixo wanted to prove his worth more than anything to join the Pathfinder team and gave it his all through the application process.  Not just to prove it to himself, or prove it to his father, but to make sure no one would think that he made it on only because he was the son of the Human Pathfinder.  The only thing that troubled him was the thought that if he did make it on the team it would mean not just working for his father, but being a galaxy and 600 years away from anyone else he knew besides his father.  He persevered through though and his labors were rewarded with a spot on the team.  What set his soul at ease more than anything else though was that his twin sister Sara had also made it on.  She was his lifelong confidant and one of the few people that never judged him for what had happened.  She had her own reasons to join but being the jokester that she is, she kept it from him that she had also applied and passed until the first meeting of the full Pathfinder team... just to see the look on his face.  With her there it was like a ray of sunshine in the dark, with her there he could stand it.    He was ready to leave it all behind and start anew.  To make a difference for generations of people to come.  To protect, serve, and make sure that his mother didn’t die in vain for his mistakes. ...Jeez that turned into a fanfic by mistake.  I really just meant to type a paragraph or two. :?/ I was going to put in the whole Reyes relationship in there but I think I should stop before a book flies out.
