It’s a split second decision, where Seth is trying to figure out how the Hell that Emme and him were going to get out of the mess he’d put them in. With the Rogues invading his home, looking for the former President of the Primordials to join their ranks— or at least give them information. Seth knew he needed backup with too many people to handle himself. So he pulls his phone out of his pocket, in an attempt to hit ‘call’ on the first person he’s got on the list of recents. Seth’s not sure who the fuck he hits until it’s a moment later when he hears Ryder’s quiet voice in the receiver. Seth says nothing at first but then he’s antagonizing the Rogues with a “Y’all really fuckin’ came to my house thinkin’ you’re gonna come outta this shit alive? Holdin’ me hostage in my own fuckin’ home? I will bury your asses my fuckin’ self. I ain’t no Rogue.”

God, he hopes it was enough. Seth knows his phone won’t last for long and when it’s taken, it’s already not calling anyone. He hopes it was enough to hear for the kid with one working ear to know what to do. Tied up in his own home, trying to keep Emme calm and with him. He’s not sure he’ll ever forgive himself for putting her in this situation. However, it doesn’t take long for the Primordials to arrive and the bloodbath to commence. God, he’s hoping this is the last of the roaches, scorching what’s left of the rogue clan. Once Seth is freed, he’s already pulling Emme away from the house, out to the porch, shielding her face and her ears from the noises as much as possible. It isn’t until he hears the screech of the front porch door that he looks up at Ryder with an unsure look. He stands, moving away from Emme for the moment. “Y’all need me?” he asks, knowing that most, if not all would’ve been cleaned up by now— now the real clean up begins. Thankfully, there’s no neighbors within a mile of here. Unfortunately, that was both an advantage and a disadvantage now. “I dunno what the fuck they thought they were doin’,” he mentions. “I already fuckin’ told ‘em I wasn’t interested.”

Ryder’s words are far from surprising. His trust issues are practically a staple point of who he is now, woven deeply into his skin and bones, leaving little pieces of them behind everywhere he goes. They’re obvious, she thinks, to anyone who has taken any time to get to know him --- and she understands why he has them. His childhood hadn’t been easy by any means, and Rowan knows that it’s nearly impossible to get over the kind of thing that Ryder had been through. Still, she sighs as he speaks, a hand running through her hair gently. “You think you’re ever going to stop running?” She asks with a tilt of her head. “You’ve been here a long time. Put down a lot of roots,” or at least she thinks he has. “Might be time to start lookin’ at the people here as long term, you know?” 

Indiana Jones, she had repeated a million times to the blond. If they were going to the Halloween party at the Harris House, he wasn’t going as an employee, wasn’t going as himself— he was going as Indiana Jones, to match her Lara Croft. It was literally going to be the cutest thing ever and he was trying to ruin it. “I swear to God, Ry, if we’re late because of you not just listening to me in the first place, you’re gonna pay for my drinks all night. Hell, you may be the one that carries me home!”
