wada sez: This strip had an overwhelmingly positive response at the time of its publication. Per a comment of his on deviantART, this was Tristan Jones’ first time coloring someone else’s lineart! Clean inks and a grayscale-colored version of the artwork can be seen below the break, together with a preview for tomorrow’s strip. And as a bonus, years later, Multiverse contributor Heather Smith did her own take on the colors for Wilton’s lineart—which in my opinion are far superior! I’ve included them below, too.

wada sez: A direct continuation of “History Repeats”, also by Ryan. In terms of new stuff here, we see Rodimus actually reminisce on the events of the movie, and he parrots Optimus’ line “Megatron must be stopped—no matter the cost.” The idea of a Decepticon Matrix of Leadership originates in “Five Faces of Darkness”, where it’s a scam invented by the Quintessons—don’t confuse it with the Decepticon Matrix of Conquest. Years later, the story would continue in “Till All Are Dead”.

wada sez: This strip is one of many, many riffs on the iconic scene from The Transformers: The Movie, swapping Optimus Prime and Megatron for Rodimus Prime and Galvatron, though sort of shuffling the dialogue around; for instance, Rodimus parrots his own line “Not today, Galvatron!”, which was actually from his final confrontation with Galvatron as Hot Rod. It’s only become more and more passé over time to homage that movie, but this is lovely art, closely matching stills from the movie in style and shading. The little squares at the edges of the speech bubbles are a stylistic choice lifted from the Generation 2 comic, in keeping with the theme of neverending conflict. Rodimus Prime is drawn based specifically on his Titanium Series figure, though some of the details differ. Over the following years, the strip would receive a couple of continuations from the same writer, “Deja Vu” and “Till All Are Dead”.
