Even before Ryan could move on his own two feet alone, he proved himself a handful. Restlessly energetic, he struggled to stay still in elementary school, soon becoming known as a troublemaker and the class clown. After several (stressful) parent teacher conferences, his mother Rosa signed her son up for every single sport she could find a flier for. At first, Ryan hated being dragged to these practices: golf was a bore, all the kids in Little League were lame, and he hated how the chlorinated pool water stung his eyes. But the fourth time was a charm. He found his love in soccer club. Although he was too spirited for some of the kids in soccer, it helped his performance in school. If he was good in class, he could go to soccer practice after school, but if he misbehaved he couldn’t go to practice. This helped Ryan start learning a bit of discipline. But that disappeared at the age of ten when he developed his power of Animal Morphing.
Ryan first discovered it when he was running around outside. The boy was trying to run faster and thinking about how if he was a cheetah, he could do it. Without effort, he transformed into one. To him, this was amazing. And so, the next day, at practice, he morphed into a cheetah to show off. Luckily his mother was there and was quick to usher him away. Later that day, they had packed up and were moving away. The whole time, she was talking on the phone with someone in a hushed tone. During the move, both of his parents explained to him that he wasn’t allowed to use these powers in front of others. If they saw, they wouldn’t understand and he’d be taken away. And he understood that, somewhat. But within the two years, Ryan slipped up and used his powers at another soccer match. And that event was what Ryan dubbed ‘the catalyst that set off the explosion.’ When he and his mother relocated again, it was without Ryan’s father, Joseph.
From that day forward Ryan was never quite the same. No matter how many times his mother assured him the divorce wasn’t his fault, Ryan still blamed himself. This began to reflect in how he played. At first, he was withdrawn, not talking to even his mother all that often and discouraging the coaches. He was once one of the top players on the team, but he lost his spark. As he entered his teenage years, his feelings towards his father turned more into anger. The rage motivated him to be a better player, and although he was too aggressive on the field, Ryan got away with it, having reclaimed his spot as the star player.
Going to a super hero high school, Ryan was finally allowed to freely use his powers. And like soccer, he took to the whole ‘superhero’ thing quickly. He was at the top of his game most of junior year, but he started attending parties more and more with peers. Often, he came into practices drunk or hungover and pissed off his coaches. This behavior persisted until one of the coaches told him that he was disappointed in Ryan; the kid had a lot of talent and he was squandering it. That stuck with him and while infuriated and feeling a degree of humiliation, he started going to parties less and focusing more on his talents. When he graduated, he was offered several athletic scholarships, but he had other plans. He was ready to finally use his powers and show up his father. And for the first three years as a hero, he saved many lives and his alter ego became very well-known. After incidents, he was often stopped to sign autographs or take photographs with fans. This notoriety would come back to bite him.
A few months after his ‘hero support’ Jaymie Tien decided to leave him, a rescue mission went very wrong. He was pulling people out of a burning building when the structure began collapsing. Some chunks of cement fell on his leg before he had time to escape unscathed. It was a miracle that he even survived the ordeal. Another hero arrived at the scene and pulled him out before he sustained further injury, but his right leg had to be amputated below the knee. After nearly half a year of recovery and physical therapy, Ryan thought he would finally be able to use his powers again. But to his frustration, he found out that he was having trouble connecting to his powers. The new prosthetic made morphing became a lot more difficult. With this new revelation, he quickly enrolled at Skybourne University, determined to reconnect with his powers.

Jaymie Tien: Formerly worked with her a few years prior to enrolling at Sky U. He’s not sure what went wrong in their professional relationship, oblivious to the reasons why she quit. He harbors a lot of confusion about the incident, and wants to try and figure out what went wrong. Though the struggle may lie in his inability to abandon his pride and properly hear her out (and not supplement the reasons with his own hypotheses of what happened).
Ethan Matsui: He’s heard about Ethan’s fantasy league and is very intrigued. Although he has only run into Ethan at a party, he wants to know more and get in on the action.
