New arrival for the studio modular #makenoise #rxmx #eurorack #modular #vactrol (bij Eevo Lute Music & Technology)
RxMx/Turing Study
I recently picked up the RxMx, a unique and inspiring mixer module by Make Noise. It's a six-channel mixer with a crossfader that sweeps across all six channels, but you can also change the "radius" of the crossfader to blend neighboring channels -- all the way from one to six at a time. Crucially, both the position and radius of the crossfader can be voltage-controlled, so channels can be scanned and mixed automatically using interesting voltage sources in the rest of the system.
This is a little study made using the Turing Machine Random Looping Sequencer to control the RxMx. I think the Turing Machine's mostly-repeating, gradually-shifting random patterns provide a particularly compelling modulation source for the RxMx.
First, here are the 6 channels being fed into the RxMx. The seventh sample here, some echoes and a kick drum, are an extra layer on top of the RxMx's mix.

Here's the study itself. You can hear how much dynamism & movement the automatic mixing of the RxMx adds:

- Patch notes - Turing machine CV input is patched from Wogglebug's burst output, so it just randomly jumps out of the "16 step lock" setting to make small occasional changes to the patterns. - Drums are all triggered from turing pulses & some from a clock divider. - RxMx Ch. Sel is controlled by Turing seq out. - RxMx strike input played by Turing pulse #1. - Melody lines are from Turing Machine "Voltages" out into uScale.
Picked up a MakeNoise RxMx mixer and FXDf filter bank at the Hideout synth nerd meet-up. My friend Nate always does great stuff with his Moog filter bank so it was nice to finally try one out.
Thanks to Wesley at Chicago's first Eurorack dealer Synth City (*finally*). I cannot say how excited I am to be able to pick up modules in Chicago instead of mail ordering them from Brooklyn and LA.
