On this day in 1994 my debut album, Necktie Second, was released on American Recordings. The other day driving across sunny Vashon Island, I heard “Sunspot Stopwatch” on the radio. It’s cool that all these years later, the record is still receiving a bit of airplay! Thanks KBCS! I really enjoyed hearing the song—didn’t cringe at all. It sounded pretty timeless to me, thanks to Brendan O’Brien’s production and Russ Fowler's engineering. The lyrics are certainly more mean-spirited than anything I’d write today, but I still like them. I remember Brendan cutting the bass on this track like it was yesterday. It was an old Burns bass with a switch on it marked “Wild Dog.” How could you go wrong with that? Anyway… think I may try and dig up some photos from the Necktie sessions for TBT tomorrow. #kbcs #onthisday #brendanobrien #russfowler
