Honestly, I don’t believe this widespread fanon that Leon S. Kennedy is chronically lonely and has no friends.
This guy’s a chatterbox. He talks to everyone, including monsters (and himself). He clicks with people instantly. He hangs out in bars all the time, for goodness’ sake - those aren’t private or quiet places! Yeah he drinks, but he doesn’t drink alone!
He has hobbies. He’s a bike guy. He does shooting competitions (some of the reload animations in RE4R/RE9 are competition shooter tricks). He seems at least somewhat familiar with what’s trending, if his ever-evolving wardrobe is any indication. He listens to music (I mean, did you hear what he was blasting in that Porsche?) And he works out… a lot.
Leon would absolutely have friends outside of work. He’d have drinking buddies. He’d have gym buddies. He’d have buddies at his local bike shop. He’d have buddies at the shooting range. He’d have buddies to invite over to watch football.
(And he DOES have at least one person who canonically regards him as a friend. Did y’all forget about Ark Thompson? Lmao)
Now, is Leon close enough with any of these buddies to lean on them when he’s in a dark place? Oh, absolutely not. These are just people he does activities with, not people he can really talk to about what’s going on in his life. But the bottom line is that the man wouldn’t just spend all his time away from work holed up in his apartment alone. He’d have a social life outside of the people he interacts with in canon.

The US government wanted Leon to die in Raccoon City.
Think about it. Sherry is a government agent with all the resources in the country at her fingertips, but she called in the BSAA - an independent agency - for a rescue operation.
What does that tell us? The DSO wouldn’t send anyone. The US military wouldn’t send anyone. They straight up told Sherry “no”, and she was forced to beg Chris for help instead.
Leon has been both their greatest asset and their biggest liability for decades, and they finally decided he’s too dangerous. They wanted to bury him. But they failed.
Leon x OC and Leon x Reader (2 versions!)
Read it here on AO3
Summary:
It's official: Leon S. Kennedy is canonically married.
I had a thought that was originally just a funny idea: what if Leon quickly got back together with the girl who dumped him right before RE2, and he's been quietly married this entire time with practically no one knowing about it? But the more I thought about it, the more it became both a sweet and angsty lifelong love story in my head... which resulted in this fic, the first in a series.
This part takes place directly after RE2, when Leon finally receives the medical attention he desperately needed, like, yesterday. WHUMP AND H/C AHEAD!
CWs: hospital settings, graphic description of medical procedures, graphic description of injuries, full body/strip search (for security purposes)
Guys stop giving Leon shit for his bad posture, he has a tummy ache! His organs are turning into goo and he’s still out there popping wheelies and roundhouse kicking zombies and being so brave - he’s allowed to show signs of being in pain 😭
Do you think the LU Links have memories of the non-Zelda games they’ve been in? Like is Time aware that he was in Soulcalibur and does he remember it, like a weird fever dream or something? Does he get random flashbacks of Mario Kart?

So of course there’s been a lot of discourse over who Leon’s mysterious wife is. Some people say it’s Claire, but I feel like it would be a total Capcom move to pair Leon up with Just Some Gal. Like, no one ever mentioned in the series. And honestly? I kind of like it better that way, because we can have fun with it and have her be whoever we want her to be.
Hey, Resident Evil fandom! Let's talk about Sherry, Claire, and Leon.
I've seen some... interesting takes lately on the subject of Sherry being in games with Leon after RE2 but not Claire. Now, would I love to see Sherry and Claire reunite onscreen? Of course I would! I'm begging for it, Capcom!
But Sherry absolutely belongs in games with Leon too, and claiming she's only connected to Claire and not Leon is wildly inaccurate.
In fact, Sherry is arguably the single most important aspect of Leon's characterization post-RE2. Yes, really!
So why don't we take a deep dive into the lore? Check it out under the cut!
CW: discussion of suicide ideation
Okay, first off, let me tell you what this post is and what it isn't.
What this post is: a lore-accurate explanation of why Leon and Sherry are so important to each other.
What this post isn't: trying to convince you that Sherry's connection with Leon is somehow "more" than her connection with Claire. Honestly, I can't STAND relationship hierarchy bullshit like that. It's not a competition. Sherry is very important to both Leon and Claire. Her relationship with each of them should not be measured using concepts like "more" or "less." Got it? Good!
Now, without further ado let's get started!
Why do people think Leon has no connection to Sherry?
Well, that's an easy question to answer. People play RE2 or RE2R and think that's all there is to it. Leon barely interacts with Sherry at all onscreen during the Raccoon City incident. It's easy to get confused about why Capcom keeps putting them in games together if that's all you know.
From here, let's talk about what really happened through a series of common misconceptions!
Misconception #1: Leon never had any emotional attachment to Sherry.
A file in RE6 reflecting upon Leon's experience in Raccoon City shows that this is far from the truth. Leon has always been very emotionally attached to Sherry, and even made the choice to keep living for her sake. He says, "To tell you the truth, I even thought about ending it - several times, actually... But I didn't give up. Sherry needed me... I had to pull myself together for her sake."
Misconception #2: Sherry barely even spent any time with Leon.
On screen, yes, Sherry is pretty much exclusive to Claire's campaign in RE2/RE2R. But a file in RE3 tells us that after Raccoon City, Claire almost immediately left to continue her search for Chris, and Sherry was left in Leon's care. Leon and Sherry were alone together for an unspecified amount of time - I'd guess maybe half a day at least and several days at most, meaning that Sherry may have actually spent more time with Leon than she did with Claire.
Misconception #3: Sherry is not important to Leon's story.
Not true AT ALL! In fact, she's arguably the most important part of Leon's story! A cutscene in The Darkside Chronicles tells us that after Leon and Sherry were rescued by US government agents, Leon was pressed into government service in exchange for Sherry's safety. This is corroborated by a file in RE3. Sherry "knows too much," and is just another loose end to tie up to bury what really happened in Raccoon City. Although it never explicitly says that she was going to be killed, it's heavily implied.
Do you know what that means?
It means that everything Leon went through after RE2/RE2R was because he signed his entire life away to save that little girl. The US government almost literally owns Leon because of Sherry. He loved her so much that he gave up his entire life for her, and all the pain and mental strife he's gone through over the years are the direct result of that choice.
Misconception #4: Sherry regarded Claire as a mother figure, so she never cared about Leon.
Like I said, I HATE relationship hierarchy bullshit. Yes, according to a file in RE6 Claire had a huge impact on Sherry, and Sherry regarded her as her new mother. That doesn't detract from Sherry's relationship with Leon. The reason why she didn't latch onto Leon the way she did to Claire as a child is probably because Leon was kept away from her. When they met up in RE6, it's implied that they hadn't seen each other in a long time. With how much love Leon had for Sherry, I sincerely doubt their lack of relationship was voluntary. And as we see in RE9, Leon and Sherry did develop a much closer relationship after reconnecting in RE6 - probably because they were finally allowed to actually talk to each other.
And there you have it!
I love lore dumping 😅 Hopefully this clears up some things for people, and helps them see how precious Sherry is to BOTH of her rescuers ❤️
