“YOUTH NABBED AT RUM PLANE UP IN COURT,” Border Cities Star. September 2, 1931. Page 3. ---- Charged with violation of United States Tariff Act, Stanley Gaslorek, 19, of Detroit, is held under bond of $2,500 to face the Federal Grand Jury following his examination this morning before U. S. Commissioner Frank Q. Quinn. Gasiorek was caught by border patrolmen while fleeing from a liquor-laden plane.
On July 7 members of the patrol. saw the plane winging its way from the vicinity of La Salle and were on the scene shortly after it effected a landing in a field near New Boston, Michigan. Four men had disembarked and were engaged in shifting 80 quarts of liquor from the airplane to a car.
As soon as the officers approached the four men scattered, strewing nails in their wake to embarrass pursuit Gasiorek was trapped when he became enmeshed in a barbed wire fence but the other three eluded capture. The plane took off and landed at the Walker Airport where it was seized the next day by Canadian customs officials.
