So I watched Kpop Demon Hunters for the first time…here's my review
I want to start off by saying I really really liked it.
However, my god was the pacing was mach 10. Rumjinu is all over my social media front pages, and everyone talks about them like they were deeply in love. And don't get me wrong, the connection was there, but they met 4 (???) times. I heard the opening notes of Free and was so confused because there was no way they were playing that song with what little interaction they had. This isn't a fault between them btw, the pacing is the issue.
I feel like I watched a YouTube video, not a movie. Genuinely, I love me a short and compact movie. But again, it's entirely a pacing issue. You could argue that since it's for kids that the pacing was perfect for a younger mind, but I counter that with the argument that kids should be taught to slow down and have patience when enjoying a story. A fast paced movie is only going to make any attention span issue worse.
If they writers are planning on expanding their story (and with its success, that outcome is extremely likely) I would love to actually get to know the characters and see their relationships flourish.
The movie was really really good, and that's why I'm critiquing it. There is a lot of potential there.
