but it's happening. george is out of a seat in 2027, just like how he is out of a seat in 2026, but no one waits with bated breath cos like, george will extend with mercedes. obviously. but then, SHOCK! george signs a one year contract with williams. the media is in shambles. is it the prodigal son's return or a man in a quarter life crisis??? only time will tell.

meanwhile alex is at the end of his career himself, and he's sort of lost hope at ever winning a championship, and now he only dreams of being in the seat long enough to be at his home race in 2028. but his contract expires in 2027 and james is already looking at promoting luke brown or f2 champion lia block (ssshh). he thought he's kinda safe, after all george might be the prodigal son but he's literally the williams ambassador, he should be able to seduce james to another year extension with his results. he can be in top 12 again this year, he's sure.

but his seat becomes more precarious with george in contention now. and it's worse because surprise!!! they are exes. gasp! they broke up somewhere in 2024 when alex went ghost mode again after his terrible race results make it hard to show his face near george. sources say that's not how george sees it but hey it's in alex's pov so he wouldn't know. because it's not galex without miscommunication.

anyway, they both have a hard time letting their guards down around each other. it's harder because alex is convinced george is out to get him, even though george is clearly struggling. one night after a double DNF, george can't help it, he breaks their silent treatment of each other and comes to alex's room to get drunk and whine about the car. "why do even try," george says, and alex is like. you knew what it was like here. you chose to come back. and george is like. "well i had no other option" and it kinda scratches something inside of alex that secretly is bruised at the idea of never being the first choice.

but that night changes something for them... they become a bit more loose, relaxed around each other. and it impacts their driving too! and for plot reasons this Unlocks a level of performance in the car never before seen... suddenly they get a fantastic p5-p6, and one wonderful magical rainy race, alex "rain master" albon and george "mr saturday" russell manage to cinch a 1-2... and it literally fixes them ❤️ they get drunk on champagne and george admits how much he missed being on the podium... but not as much he missed racing with his best friend 🥹 alex admits he missed george too... and so of course they fuck tenderhorny that night! and alex is so overjoyed that he makes george promise to fight for more wins and podiums together! they are best friends and they are good teammates!

and in the after george reveals that he's actually been sooo burned out, he's starting to hate racing. and it's like unthinkable cos you spent your whole life for this, if you hate it what else do you have? george says actually james didn't make him an offer. he asked james if he could return. and alex is like what. are you crazy. and george is like. well when i'm trying to remember what made me love racing, i remember how fun it was to race against you. so when toto asked if i wanted to extend my contract i said no.

and alex is like LIVID. because do you know how heartbreaking it is to accept that he'll never return to a top team again? how he had to tailor his dream to be realistic, how he had to swallow the hard pill that he'd leave this sport at 32, never having won anything? how his only hope is just to make it long enough to be at his home race in thailand? and george is throwing it away for what? FOR FUN??? and then george is quiet but then he says, in a small voice, actually alex i did it for love. because i literally love you so much that when i think about racing i think about you. but you're right, i was stupid to ever think you'd love me back.

AND SO they are back at square one. silent treatment. they don't get a magical podium again because now they're at each other's throat fighting for that lowly p7. but alex is winning. he is scoring sooo many more points than george. he is the one who will get that extension!! he will get to thai gp in 2028 if it's the last thing he does!!

and then. george quits the team, two races before abu dhabi. fucking disappears. luke brown is alex's new teammate. alex finishes 10th in the standings overall and williams finishes their highest at p5. alex gets the extension he wants. williams is suddenly acing the new regs in 2028. there's a "welcome back nigel mansell" meme photoshopped onto a mustache'd alex every weekend. he gets to thai gp. he wins it. he should feel like it's enough, but it's not. he missed george. it's not fun without george. there's no love, there's no passion. every weekend he's just getting in and out of the car with no heart left. so after that he flies out to king's lynn, begs george's parents to let him see george. and he's outside tending a garden and!!! he looks so happy. farmer george, tanned and smelling like he's been out in the sun all day.
