A friend of mine pointed out the gears on the box in the bottom left corner.

There are gears in the colors of Wondasho.

Rui's is cut off from the top as well as faded. It is also not connected to the others.

Tsukasa's is faded but also obscured by a star that has also faded in color.

Nene's is obscured by a splotch that's in Rui's color.

Emu's is the only one that's normal, however, it is the farthest away from Rui.

Gears help each other turn by being together, and Rui's is not one of those symbiotic gears. The only thing connecting Rui's gear to them is a splotch that is hindering Nene's visibility, possibly representing how he believes he can only hurt Nene (hence him distancing himself from her in middle school)?

Then another friend of mine pointed out that there's also a chain of stars and lightbulbs.

There's a lit lightbulb that connects to a shining star. The shining star connects to a turned off lightbulb that's in Rui's color, which connects to a faded star. The section of the star closest to Rui's bulb still has a bit of life in it. However, the darkest section of the star connects to another light bulb (which we know represents Rui). Now that the star has faded, this light bulb is extremely dark.

As Tsukasa goes out, so does Rui.

The chain started with a lightbulb (Rui), which eventually resulted in a faded star (perhaps Tsukasa's stardom?) that covered Tsukasa's gear (Tsukasa himself?)

So Rui believes that he's hurting Tsukasa and Nene, and if they fade away, he self-destructs, shown by the final dark light bulb as well as his gear being cut in half.

hmm... id also like tsukasas eye shine removed at least once in this event, if that's possible.

id like a trained set with plenty of dark symbolism, and an untrained set with plenty of suffering.
