#rubber factory

Pacifico Silano is a lens-based artist whose work is an exploration of print culture and LGBTQ identity. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he received his MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts. His work has been exhibited at the Bronx Museum; Tacoma Art Museum; Oude Kerk, Amsterdam; and Museo Universitario del Chopo, Mexico City. He has had solo shows at Baxter ST@CCNY, Rubber Factory, Stellar Projects, The Bronx Museum’s Block Gallery and Fragment Gallery, Moscow. Reviews of his work have appeared in The New Yorker, Artforum and The Washington Post. Awards include the Aaron Siskind Foundation Fellowship, NYFA Fellowship in Photography, and being a Finalist for the Aperture Foundation Portfolio Prize. In the Fall of 2020 he will have a solo show at The Houston Center for Photography and be included in the exhibition Fantasy America at The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

when the lights go out (x): owning house plants, end of the road, old fashioned femme fatale movies, creaking floorboards, raised brows, ginger beer, old photos, being teased, caught in rapture, the movie anon, wondering what would happen to the world, moonlight, power outages. 

10am automatic (x): red lipstick, bright advertisements, city at night,  not caring, shots, giving someone a run for their money, road trip, wild seas, messy hair, running through the street with friends, catching someone's eye, always moving, driving with the windows down, rum and coke, blowing kisses. 

all hands against his own (x): industrial part of the city, head in your hands, trying not to be in love, drinks after work, watching the news, moral slump, anarchy, grey skies, melancholia, discontent, shrugging, rain in the air, trying not to dream of them, wanting, longing, feeling like fate is against you. 

desperate man (x): mints on your pocket, checking your breath, adjusting your jacket, half-empty bottles of cologne/perfume, cheek caresses, end of summer, greeting people with “hey”, city streets at sunset, the fading light in your hair, hoping to run into someone, disappointment. 

grown so ugly (x): the witty friend, mismatching socks, stumbling downstairs while being late, combing hair, a wink, good omens, retro sunglasses, putting your head on someone's shoulder, spare change, self-deprecating humour, wrinkled clothes, charming laugh.

stack shot billy (x): rye whiskey on ice, the clacking of a jaw, bitter remarks, circles under eyes, the occasional cynical smile, an old pub or town bar, ankle boots, mentioning disturbing facts, telling old ghost stories with a twinkle in your eye, the silence after a pub fight. 

act nice and gentle (x): heavy summer sun, lazy days, wild daisy posey, homemade lemonade, rustic romance, school hall, sitting under old trees, picnic blankets, wanting to be loved, small smiles, watercolours, walking with flowers in your hair, going through old photos. 

aeroplane blues (x): denim blue, sun in your hair, smell of gasoline, mechanics, small-town blues, wanting to be more, a map with tears in it, truth, cherry lollipop, facing fears for something greater, crossed arms, suitcase filled to the brim, realisation that you have made the wrong choice.

keep me (x): rusty iron gates, worn out clothes, biting your lip, begging, playfully calling someone old fashioned names like “darling” “ma’am”, copper cross necklace, old quilted blankets, head against a window, wanting to hide from the world, kisses on the back of the hand.
