Can the Antidepressant Alternative TMS Be Used with Medication?
rTMS and dTMS Pasadena are both evidence-based interventional treatment modalities that can help patients when other treatments have failed. These antidepressant alternatives are noninvasive through the use of handheld devices (for rTMS) and magnetic fields (for dTMS).
Both are clinically proven to be safe and effective.
At Pasadena Neuropsychiatry, we treat many of our patients with BrainsWay dTMS, which the FDA has cleared to help individuals with treatment-resistant depression, anxious depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is also used to help with smoking cessation. At our clinic, we specialize in SAINT TMS Pasadena protocol, which is an evidence-based intervention for patients who experience acute suicidal ideation.
rTMS and dTMS Pasadena with Medication
Depending on your health, symptoms, and the results of past depression treatments, TMS procedures and medication may both be incorporated into your mental healthcare plan. Data published by the Journal of Psychiatric Research found that taking medication while undergoing TMS procedures can increase the remission rates of patients with depression.
The study found that the remission rate of individuals treating their depression with medication was 11%. The remission rate increased to 60% for individuals who had BrainsWay dTMS treatments in addition to taking medication. The study also compared the results of BrainsWay dTMS and the standard rTMS treatments when both were used with medication:
● The response rate of individuals using medication with rTMS was 44%.
● The response rate of individuals using medication with BrainsWay dTMS was 67%.
● Individuals using medication with rTMS had a HAM-D17 reduction of 41%.
● Individuals using medication with BrainsWay dTMS had a HAM-D17 reduction of 59%.
