“Then you shouldn’t have given her a crack to slither into.”

The general’s voice was hard, flat. Emotionless. But more than that, his eyes were dull and lifeless, like a shark’s. It didn’t add much sharpness to the gaze he was fixing Ruby with, but it probably wasn’t meant to. Strangely, though, he didn’t deny being afraid.

He couldn’t very well maintain a position of superiority via his honesty if he started lying too, could he?

Whitley and Klein have moved to speak with Winter. That’s... fine. Winter doesn’t want to speak to her, she knows that. She’ll... check in, when things settle.

But... what is wrong with Winter? Why is she... why does she look like that? And where is Weiss? Not that she actually cares, but... part of her even wonders where Jacques is. Is he in the crowd with the “common rabble,” or... did he never make it out of his jail cell?

... for some reason, though, she asks a very different question.

Leon sighs, rolls his eyes, and it’s under a minute before he’s got the smallest recruit slung over both his shoulders and braced so that if she squirms, he won’t drop her. He’s got enough experience dragging people to bed, and it’s way easier when they’re this sized.

The honesty was a bit surprising, but it was welcome, even if the answer wasn’t one that indicated that Weiss was perfectly fine.

After several minutes, someone wearing what looked far more like scrubs, or something to that effect, had poked their head around an open door and called his name, smiling brightly with a translucent clipboard in their hand. From there, he had been led back into an exam room and, after a quick vitals check, made even quicker by what could only be assumed to be Advanced Atlas Technology, Atlas was nothing if not efficient, after all, asked to wait for a doctor.

A quiet knock on the door announced the doctor’s presence, and it was a wide-eyed face with a bright smile that peered around it before the rest of her edged into the room.

“Well, hello there! You must be Jaune Arc.”
