You were lounging in the passenger seat of Joy's car, your sock covered feet kicked up on the dashboard and the brim of your hat pushed down low over your eyes. Joy's playlist of classic rock and oldies played softly from the well used speakers and the sound of the tires on pavement filled the small gaps of silence as the songs changed. You were dressed in a pair of black soccer pants and one of Calum's huge tshirts, no makeup on and your hair not brushed. It wasn't like you were lazy but it was 4 in the morning and you had already been driving for half an hour.
"Why'd their flight have to come in at 4:30 in the freaking morning?" You grumbled, crossing your arms and nestling more into your seat. Joy chuckled and reached over, rubbing your arm. "I'm not a fan of it either." She told you, quickly looking down at you and smirking. "You keep getting lower and lower into that seat, any lower and you'll literally absorb into it." You giggled and shook your head, rolling your eyes dramatically.
Leaning your head against the cold glass of the window you looked up at the sky. It was still dark out, the sun just beginning to rise but some of the stars still visible. It was the time of day when Calum would get up to workout in the home gym he made in the garage or when he'd roll out of bed for a run. It was also normally the time when you'd roll over and snuggle his pillow until the sun came up and it was normal to be awake.
You tugged the collar of Calum's shirt up over your nose and smiled, the familiar scent of your boyfriend filling your nose. The mixture of his cologne and the fabric softener relaxed you just enough for your eyes to shut and you almost fell asleep but the constant bumps in the road tossing your head back against the window kept you from really getting some rest.
Joy turned into the airport parking lot not 10 minutes after you closed your eyes. She gently reached over, shaking your thigh to wake you up. You groaned slightly and sat up, pulling your feet off the dashboard and stretching your arms above your head. You laid your palms flat against the roof of the car and stretched your back before running a hand down your face to try to wipe away the tiredness.
"I'm never getting him from the airport this early ever again." You grumped and pouted, crossing your arms across your chest. Joy chuckled and shook her head as she pulled into a parking spot. "That's what you said the last three times, sweetie." You rolled your eyes and opened your door, "I know, I know." You muttered. "I have a soft spot for that idiot."
The sound of you closing your door blocked out Joy laughing and agreeing with you. You pulled your hat lower on your face before shoving your hands into the pockets of your pants. You wrapped your hand around the phone in your right pocket, hoping to feel it vibrate with a text from Calum as you and Joy walked towards the airport.
The two of you had to talk to the usual members of security to take you downstairs to where the boys should be. It was quite a change when you went from waiting in the waiting room for Calum with a cute sign to being ushered down into the depths of the airport so you could wait for him. It wasn't the cutest scenario but it was nice to be able to see him somewhere semi private. You leaned against the wall of the room you knew the boys would walk into when they got off their plane and rested your head against the wall. Your phone vibrated in your pocket and your heart skipped a beat. You pulled your phone out of your pocket and held the phone in front of your face, groaning when you saw the notification was just from Twitter.
Joy chuckled and shook her head when you sighed loudly and shoved your phone back into your pocket. “It’s not funny!” You grumbled, jutting out your lower lip in a pout. You stared down at your shoes, practically studying the tops of the all black Vans you slipped on when you had to get out of the car. “I think it’s a little funny.” Joy commented and you rolled your eyes.
You pulled your phone out of your pocket once again, scrolling through your Twitter feed to see if any of the boys tweeted about being back home. You sighed again when you didn’t see anything from the boys or more specifically, your favorite boy. It’d been like 3 months since you’d seen Calum and you wanted more than anything to jump into his arms.
“Will you get your face out of your phone?” Joy groaned and you just knew she was staring at you impatiently for you to put your phone away. “I guess, but if Calum texts me and I don’t see it it’s your fault.” You told her, locking your phone.
“I don’t think that’s going to be a problem.” She said, chuckling and you finally looked up at her. Your heart stopped and your eyes grew wide with surprise. Joy laughed loudly, looking up at Calum, who nonchalantly had his arm slung around his mom’s shoulders. He was biting his lower lip to try to contain his laughter and grin and had his phone in his hand, typing away.
Your phone buzzed in your pocket and you rolled your eyes as Calum made eye contact with you. He stuck his tongue out playfully as you checked the message. “I’m home.” the text from him read and you laughed loudly, launching yourself at your boyfriend. He unwrapped his arm from his mom’s shoulders and caught you as you clung to his neck, your legs tossed around his hips.
His hands pressed against your back, trying to pull you closer to him but it was almost impossible. Your face found it’s way into the familiar crook of his neck and you were pressing small kisses to his soft, warm skin. Taking a deep breath, you grinned at how he smelt exactly how you remembered. You lifted your head and beamed at him as he beamed back at you.
His semi long hair was a mess from the flight and him running his hands through it. The bags under his eyes from lack of sleep were worse than when he left but he looked just as good as he had before. You pressed a soft kiss to his lips before pulling back and giggling. “How long were you standing there?” You questioned and Calum laughed, a sound you had missed hearing in person more than anything.
“Like a minute.” He said, chuckling when you lightly slapped his arm. “Hey, don’t hit me or I might leave again!” Calum warned and you raised your eyebrows at him. “Oh yeah?” You punched his arm and wiggled out of his grip, turning and grabbing his duffle bag from next to Joy.
“Can’t leave without this!” You shouted as you ran away, turning back to see Calum shake his head, an overjoyed grin present on his lips as he started running. “I’m going to get you!” He called out as you opened the door to the stairwell and started jogging up the stairs.
By the 3rd landing you were a sweaty, panting mess and you had to stop to catch your breath so you didn’t pass out. You were leaning with your left hand on the railing and your right hand gripping the strap to the duffle bag tossed over your shoulder. Calum jogged onto the landing and smirked at you. A shriek pushed past your lips as he scooped you up into his arms and tossed you over his shoulder.
“Calum!” You screamed, kicking your legs around and giggling. He chuckled and shook his head as you pushed your hands flat against his lower back so you could turn your body and look at him. He turned his head slightly and shrugged his shoulders. “Can’t forget this!” He commented, shrugging the shoulder you were tossed over to make sure you knew he was talking about you. You rolled your eyes and stopped struggling as he climbed the rest of the 3 flights of stairs with you tossed over his shoulder.
When he reached the top of the stairs he pulled you back over his shoulder and dropped you to your feet right in front of him. “You’re a dork.” You mumbled and shook your head, biting your lower lip to contain your smile. Calum shook his head and pressed a kiss to your forehead. “Yeah, but I’m your dork.”
A feeling of complete happiness took over your body as you laughed loudly, shaking your head at the love of your life. It felt beyond amazing to have your boyfriend back. “Still as corny as ever.” You muttered, grabbing his hand and tugging him towards the door. “I think I might have gotten cornier.” Calum told you, pushing the door open with his free hand. You shook your head and leaned your head against his bicep as the two of you walked to the car, feeling more at home in the airport parking lot with Calum than you had when you were actually at home in months.
