Even with Brave, the motivating source was avoiding an arranged marriage: male dominance. Never do we see a woman's story that is just based on a woman without any romance attached, as compared to, I don't know, How to Train Your Dragon. That's bullshit. Third, the majority of the time women are seen as passive, helpless creatures that need a man to take over. There's no way Belle could have become a princess if she didn't have the Beast there to move her up the social ladder. Let's not even talk about the moral of the story that even though she's in a toxic relationship, if she waits long enough he'll have a character change.
